Iron and Wine had been on my to see list for a while now, so it was great to finally check him off the list at Firefly this year.

His set was as sublime and lovely as one could have expected, if not a bit of an odd main stage pairing considering most of the crowd consisted of impatient fans of both Arctic Monkeys and Foo Fighters, who are a slightly different draw than Sam Beam’s folk rock. It also didn’t help that the hot sun was blaring down on us, just about killing everyone’s patience based on the conversations I overheard nearby. Even so, the complainers couldn’t help but be moved by the gracious “Boy With a Coin”, a clear fan favorite that won over the entire crowd.

I would like to capture a full proper set from Sam and company someday, but their Firefly set was more than enough to hold me over for now.

Setlist:

1. Woman King
2. Grace for Saints and Ramblers
3. Caught in the Briars
4. Freedom Hangs Like Heaven
5. God Made the Automobile
6. Stranger Laid Beside Me
7. Rabbit Will Run
8. Low Light Buddy of Mine
9. Boy With a Coin
10. Muddy Hymnal
