On Thursday night House Of Vans threw their final party of the summer, with a free performance from DFA’s Holy Ghost!. The show also featured DJ sets from Kim Ann Foxmann and Dave P.
Last month I caught a bit of Holy Ghost’s set at The Hudson Project, but on Thursday I got to take in the full set, and brought out my dancing shoes. The DFA group have come a long way since their days opening for LCD Soundsystem, sounding more confident and sharper along the way. They seamlessly combine disco and dance/house ideas with the mentality of a rock band, creating an atmosphere that begs you to move along with it.
While Holy Ghost! is considered to be the duo of Nick Millhiser and Alex Franke, live the group consists of six members, all who take a part in bringing it all to fruition. From the epic draw of “Hold My Breath” and “Dumb Disco Ideas” to the chants of “Wait and See”, their performance is one that draws you in, leaving you wanting more by the time its all said and done.
