Last weekend Lykke Li played at the history Radio City Music Hall, her largest New York City show to date. The show came in support of her latest album I Never Learn, which she released earlier in the year.

Believe it or not, it was my first time catching the Swedish star live. I missed out on seeing her live during her early days due to being away at school (really regret this now), but I’m just glad to have finally caught her. Although her star power has increased significantly over time, Li still seems to take a similar humble approach, even if her songs are often larger than life. Take “Dance, Dance Dance” or “I Follow Rivers,” or her lovely take on Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire.” She still asks for the crowd to help her sing along, and pushed us to stand up from our somewhat awkward position the the fuzzy red velvet seats to dance along.

Personally, I think Li would still be better suited for those medium plus venues, but oddly enough there aren’t many of those in the city. Her sound carried quite well in the large space, certainly making the most of the opportunity. She still seems like the same girl who I was introduced to through fellow music blogs when I was just starting with this one right here, which is encouraging to see.

The world can certainly use more pop stars like Lykke Li.
