It’s not every day you get to see a band of Devo’s status play. Especially not for free in Times Square But that’s exactly what happened a few weekends ago at the CBGB Music Festival, which hosted its 3rd year in the center of Times Square, allowing for a unique viewing experience, to say the least.

The group were fired up and showcased more energy than most of the younger bands that you see around the scene these days. They stuck to their hits (“Girl U Want,” “Whip It,” + “Uncontrollable Urge”) as well as a cover of The Rolling Stones “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”

For a free show, the frontline of the crowd featured all dedicated Devo fans, with the red hats and all, singing along to every song with a joyful passion that was infectious. It’s no surprise, Devo are legends of their time, and are still keeping the spirit very much alive today.
