Leon Bridges - Lisa Sawyer

If Leon Bridges isn’t on your radar, you better fix that immediately. The Fort Worth, Texas musician is bringing soul back to life with his retro-friendly tracks, such as last year’s “Coming Home” and “Better Man,” with the former making my best songs of 2014 list.

Last week Bridges returned his most recent cut “Lisa Sayer.” Bridges once again turns back the clocks with some doo-woop influenced soul swagger that would make Sam Cooke turn his head. In fact, the song is a loving ode to his mother. He played this one when I saw him make his New York City live debut at Mercury Lounge last month, and it sounded just as wonderful.

It will appear on Bridges’ debut album, coming later this year via Columbia Records. Stream it below via Gorilla vs. Bear and go an purchase it at iTunes.
