One December 18, Foals made their return to New York City for the first time in 2015 in support of their new album What Went Down. Although the show their third consecutive time at Terminal 5 (can we get a bunch of intimate dates next time lads?), they still managed to throw down as hard as ever, delivering every bit on their rising ranks as one of the best live bands in the game at the moment.
Now sitting with four albums in their career, the group have a wide variety of songs to pick from. Of course they paid their dues to What Went Down, opening with “Snake Oil,” and continuing its influence throughout the night with picks like “London Thunder,” “A Knife In The Ocean,” “What Went Down,” and “Mountain At My Gates.” Thankfully they haven’t forgotten their past, still giving fine performances of older favorites like “Olympic Airways,” “Blue Blood,” “Red Socks Pugie,” and the incredible show closer “Two Steps, Twice” that saw the Spiderman like Yannis Philippakis climb to the second balcony and jump off into the audience. They’re one of the rare bands that lets photographers shoot the final three songs of their set in the photo pit, and it makes total sense. They flip a major switch during the end of their shows, finding more energy than ever before and using it to pummel the crowd into an epic conclusion.
