Brian Fallon is best known as the frontman of New Jersey rock group The Gaslight Anthem. He keeps plenty busy inbetween album releases, also spending time with sideprojects of his such as The Horrible Crowes and Molly and The Zombies. Now with The Gaslight Anthem on indefinite hiatus, Fallon has used the time to finally release his first solo album, Painkillers, which was released via Island Records on March 11.
He tested out some of these songs as well as select cuts from The Horrible Crowes and Molly and The Zombies at The Marlin Room at Webster Hall on January 19. The show originally was supposed to take place below at the even tinier Studio at Webster Hall but considering Fallon has a following that could’ve filled out the main room, The Marlin Room was a decent compromise to get more fans into the show.
Along with The Crowes (fellow Gaslight Anthem members Alex Rosamilia and Ian Perkins, Catherine Popper, Jared Hart and Wes Kleinknecht) Fallon ran through a passionate 20-song set of songs from different ventures that seemed to warmly occupy a similar place. When you can drop cover of Springsteen’s “Atlantic City” and it fits in snug as can be, you know you’re doing something right.
