In 2014, a band from Sheffield, England (also home of Arctic Monkeys) named The Crookes released a great record called Soapbox that largely went unnoticed here in the states. For shame, as it features some great memorable guitar rock that is miles better than a lot of the stuff that NME champions over there. This year they returned with a brand new album called Lucky Ones (released via Modern Outsider), and stopped in for a show in New York at Highline Ballroom in support of Geographer.

The band delivered a powerful performance full of the energy and memorable hooks that really have me wondering why they don’t have a bigger following here. It’s a shame, but if I continue to get to see them play at smaller venues, I’m fine with keeping it my little secret.
