Islands have taken quite a few forms since their inception after the band’s brainchild Nicholas Thorburn’s prior band The Unicorns broke up. In 2006 they released their charming debut album Return To The Seam. Since then Islands did a small reunion tour opening for Arcade Fire, and Islands have gone on to release a total of seven albums, including two this year alone, Should I Remain Here, At Sea? and Taste, both via their own label, Manque Music.

They made their live return around these parts on May 21, for a performance at Music Hall of Williamsburg. After I caught Car Seat Headrest at Rough Trade, I headed over and got there literally in time for Islands performance. They gave us a variety of new offers, including a cover of Prince’s “When You Were Mine,” along with favorites such as “Bucky Little Wing,” ” Where There’s a Will There’s a Whalebone,” and “Rough Gem.”
