Los Angeles rock outfit Cherry Glazerr released new album Apocalipstick on January 20 via Secretly Canadian. The record is the sophomore release for the group, which is led by 19-year-old frontwoman Clementine Creevy. On January 18, they brought their “Pussy Bites Back” tour to New York for a performance at Bowery Ballroom. Opening the show was Los Angeles’ Slow Hollows and Brooklyn’s Mega Bog.

This was one of the younger crowds I’ve seen of late at the Bowery, and it definitely fit the bill for Cherry Glazerr’s helter sketler set. They leaned closer towards the garage rock of their earlier days, with the young crowd losing themselves to the chaos, slamming into one another while sharing some blunts. Creevy and the group led the charge with a sloppy but intense energy that I wasn’t quite expecting in the way that the crowd reacted. But the group had a strong hold on their audience, and had them going crazy from start to finish.

Their set featured many tracks from Apocalipstick (disappointingly my favorite cut “Humble Pro” was left off the setlist), as well as tracks from their young-faced 2014 debut Haxel Princess. After chants for “one more song,” they ended their nearly hour long performance with a cover of Nirvana’s “Territorial Pissings,” sending the crowd home sweaty and happy. I’ll admit I felt a bit old in this crowd, but there’s no denying the amount of energy that Cherry Glazerr bring to the stage, which will surely keep them in the adoring hearts of these fans for a long time.
