Alt-Country/Southern rockers Drive-By Truckers have had a long and storied career, one that has no signs of slowing down. In fact, the band seem to have found a nice groove in their recent years, solidifying their lineup longtime lineup of Patterson Hood (singer, guitarist) Mike Cooley (singer, guitarist), Brad Morgan (drums) along with Jay Gonzalez (keyboards, guitar) and the always smiling Matt Patton (bass), who were once new additions but are now key ingredients to their recent success. Such as their well received 2016 album, American Band, released last September via ATO Records.

They played to a very sold out crowd at Webster Hall on February 11, one of those sold out shows that had a few fans waiting outside for tickets, with signs asking for any extras. They could easily sell out even bigger venues, but I think a 1,500 capacity space like Webster is fitting for the band to really work their magic and keep things somewhat intimate.

With 11 albums of material to pull from, Drive-By Truckers went all in on their epic 22-song set, that they delivered throughout a non-stop 2 hour performance. No encores, no bullshit, just a set of straight tunes. Any set that ends with a rowdy cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World” along with opener Kyle Craft and their own guitar techs can’t possibly disappoint. It was a great show, I look forward to hopefully catching them again the next time they return to us.
