Dams Of The West is the solo project of Chris Tomson, best known as the drummer of Vampire Weekend. Keeping busy in-between the eventual recording and release of a new Vampire Weekend record, Tomson embarked on some of his own material that he created under the moniker Dams Of The West. He recently released his debut album Youngish American via 30th Century Records, the label headed by Danger Mouse.

Dams Of The West recently stopped into New York a few days before the official release of the album, opening for Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears at Music Hall of Williamsburg of February 22. Tomson, backed by an all-female band, ran through eight of the ten offerings from the album. A little nervous at first, Tomson settled in comfortably with each passing song, seeming perfectly comfortable in front of a microphone and centerstage.
