With No Shape, Mike Hadreas’ fourth album as Perfume Genius (released via Matador Records), Hadreas has proved himself to be a consistent talent who knows how to write one hell of a powerful song. The album is sure to be on many best of lists come this December, and rightfully so, it’s near perfection.
On May 16, he brought Perfume Genius to Brooklyn Steel for a sold out show as a part of his tour in support of the record. This was somehow my first time seeing him perform and his performance that night left me in awe, sounding just as good, if not better than he sounds on record. His songs are a mixture of gentle, emotional, fragile, and complex. All of this makes up for one hell of a live experience, which the passionate sold out crowd completely resonated with.
