Give credit to Ty Segall, the man is always changing it up. Whether it’s the expansion of his garage rock sound, to the name of the band that he tours with (this time it’s The Freedom Band – which includes longtime bandmates Mikal Cronin and Charles Moothart, as well as Emmett Kelly and Ben Boye), you can always expect something new from the prolific Ty.

He’s currently on tour in support of his self-titled new album, which he released via Drag City. He recently stopped in for a sold out three-night run at Warsaw, and we caught the final night on May 19.

Ty and his band delivered a typically thunderous performance, if not a bit more jammy and expansive than normal. There were plenty of the fierceness that one comes to expect from his show, but this was a noticeably different sort of show for the band, which was cool to see. Although the crowd didn’t quite get as rowdy as I’m used to seeing fans get at his shows, after the show I noticed the brim of a baseball cap ripped straight off of a hat, so what the hell do I know?
