Australian Alex Lahey churns out some pretty catch power-pop which are perfectly on display on her debut album I Love You Like a Brother (released in October via Dead Oceans).

On November 16 she returned to New York for a performance at Music Hall of Williamsburg, the same day she made her late night TV debut on Seth Meyers. The band were jetlagged and hadn’t slept much at all, but still put on an energetic and lively performance. Considering that Lahey started the show with both “Every Day’s the Weekend” and “Wes Anderson”, two of her best songs, put in perspective how many other great songs she has and the type of energy that she brought to the show right from the getgo.

Australia is quietly churning out some pretty incredible talent, with its eyes towards the future. Consider Lahey one of the many Aussie’s in the scene that you should get used to seeing.

Openers Dude York drove all the way from Seattle and are signed to Hardly Art, who put out their rather strong new album Sincerely. The duo was a surprising force live, setting the tone for Lahey and the rest of the evening. Find photos from both their set and Alex Lahey’s posted below.
