This year saw Beck release his new album Colors vis Capitol Records. His tour didn’t come around this year for a proper New York show of his own, but on December 9 Beck played a special intimate show at Spring Studios for members of Hilton Honors program.

Prior to the show, guests were invited to enjoy an open bar as well as h’orderves and other snacks before Beck took the stage. Although Spring Studios is a decent sized room, it was modestly packed and still, getting to see Beck in a place like this was a treat.

He went big right from the start, opening with “Devils Haircut,’ and playing “Loser” two songs later. Of course, a few selections from Colors were played, but this was more or less a run through of his greatest hits. In addition, the set also included a rather great cover of The Velvet Underground’s “I’m Waiting For The Man,” and the encore performance of “Where It’s At” allowed individual moments for each of his bandmates to shine with solos of their own.

For those who weren’t able to end, rest easy as there’s a good chance Beck will be back again next year for a headlining show of his own, if not a few festival stops in the area.
