It seems every time I listen to Hop Along’s new album Bark Your Head Off, Dog (released via Saddle Creek), it gets better and better. This was first apparent with first single “How Simple,” which seemed to shape-shift and sound different everytime I relistened to it. This is always a good sign of things to come and I don’t have doubts that this record will end up on many best-of lists, mine included.
If you have yet to see their fantastic music video for “How Simple,” you’ve missed one of the best videos of the year so far. Directed by Derrick Belcham, it’s a simple low budget approach with a spotlight shining on lead singer Frances Quinlan throughout an apartment as she busts out some pretty sweet dance moves while singing the words to the camera. Sometimes less is really more and this straightforward approach and tight space was used in terrific fashion by Belcham.
