British duo Royal Blood returned to New York on May 28 for the first show of their two-night run at Brooklyn Steel. This was a much larger than the last headlining show we caught from the band at The Marlin Room at Webster Hall way back in 2014.

The tour came in continued support of their 2017 sophomore album How Did We Get So Dark?, which was released via Warner Bros. This time around the band had some extra help on some of the newer material, with two female singers giving the newer material a little extra boost. When it came time to dive into the hard-hitting rock from the first album, it went back to just the duo of bassist/vocalist Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher.

A few days prior to the show Kerr fractured his foot during their performance at Boston Calling, but he powered through the show with a walking boot and still gave us 100% and rocked out as if he wasn’t playing on an injured foot. While so many other acts would’ve canceled or postponed the show, I have to give Kerr all the credit in the world for still performing and with as much energy and movement as he gave us. It really says a lot about him and the band as performers.
