Yumi Zouma - It Feels Good To Be Around You

Air France may have called it quits but they can still lend some help when other bands are covering their songs.

It’s actually been two years since they announced they were breaking up, so New Zealand’s Yumi Zouma recruited the duo to help out with the cover of their song “It Feels Good To Be Around You.”

It’s as close as you’re going to get to hearing new Air France, so take it all in guys. Their cover/collab is posted below.

Air France Break Up

By Will Oliver, March 27th 2012 — with 1 comment

Air France graced our ears in 2008 with their fantastic No Way Down EP. It’s sad to see that the band has called it quits. The band posted a sad letter on their tumblr, sharing their reasons for disbanding.

The band never could follow-up the EP, saying “we’ve never been able to finish anything, nothing was ever good enough. We have tried so hard, and we truly gave it all we had. And now we have decided to stop trying, even though it breaks our hearts.”

It’s sad that we never got to hear another full release (they did release a song last year, listen to that song, “It Feels Good To Be Around You” right here)

Find the whole post at their tumblr, or find it below, after my favorite Air France song, “No Excuses”.

[new] Air France – It Feels Good To Be Around You

By Will Oliver, August 15th 2011 — with 1 comment

Saw that GvB posted this new Air France track, “It Feels Good To Be Around You”, last week, and I finally remembered to check it out. Love the use of the James Blake samples. It’s about time that Air France returned.

It’s absolutely pouring outside right now, but this song is shining some sunlight into this otherwise bleak Sunday.

We All Want Someone’s Favorite Albums of 2008: #40-31

By Will Oliver, January 10th 2009 — with 1 comment

If you missed out #50-41 just click here. I described the list there so read up folks! Remember it’s my favorite albums, not something I claim to be the best of 2008. They just may be though. Heh. Check them out:

#40. Be Your Own Pet – Get Awkward

Why did Be Your Own Pet have to break up? Quite unfortunate. This album continues their take on angry yet fun garage rock. Some songs are fast, some are actually sincere at parts showcasing Jemina Pearl’s really great voice. These songs are just straight up fun, and it is a shame this will be their last outing.

I always wanted to make a best list and see if I actually had the patience and motivation to do one. It never came but now since I have this blog I finally stopped being lazy and tried to put some form of list together. I didn’t start my blog until late July and didn’t realize I would need to track my songs. I didn’t do it by play count since I usually tend to overplay songs when they first come out, before concerts, with friends etc. If I based it on play count it would basically be Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Cut Copy, and The Last Shadow Puppets…That is not 2008. I limited the list to top 50. I felt some songs were quite excellent but just fell short of making the top 50. Here are songs that didn’t make it but deserve a mention.

Honorable Mentions (not in any particular order):

[mp3] : Born Ruffians – Barnacle Goose
[mp3] : Kings Of Leon – Manhattan
[mp3] : Ra Ra Riot – Too Too Too Fast
[mp3] : Tokyo Police Club – Your English Is Good

Pichfork’s Best Albums Of 2008

By Will Oliver, December 19th 2008 — with 1 comment

I have covered almost all of their lists this year, but this is the big one. This is where most people either praise their band for making it, or curse out pitchfork’s existence because they left out their bands favorite album. Overall the list is pretty good but where the fuck is Wolf Parade’s At Mount Zooner, and Okkervil River’s The Stand In’s? Meh. It was nice to see Vampire kept in the top 10, I had a bad feeling they would ditch them. Nice placement of Cut Copy at #4.

I am quite glad that Fleet Foxes got their #1. I thought they would give it to someone really obscure, just to be controversial. Fleet Foxes album definitely deserves a high spot.

Anyway here is the whole list. If you got any comments, I would love to hear them!!!

Pitchfork’s Top 10 Tracks Of 2008 (With MP3’s)

By Will Oliver, December 16th 2008 — with 1 comment

No matter how annoyed and pretentious their reviews can come off, we can all agree that Pitchfork does have a great taste in music. I mean some of the stuff that they post is too obscure for the tightest jean wearing hipster, but they do show us a lot of cool new music that we may have not heard of otherwise. Their top 10 singles is a pretty solid one this year, most of them I can honestly say I am putting on mine once I get around to it. #8-#1 are all some of my favorite songs from the year. The rest of the list is pretty great too, they picked DLZ from TV On The Radio, Oxford Comma and M79 from Vamprie Weekend, and other great songs. Check out the full list here, and give a sample of their TOP 10 songs of the year right below:

10. Estelle (Feat Kanye West) – American Boy

9. Portishead – Machine Gun

8. Air France – Collapsing at Your Doorstep

7. Cut Copy – Hearts On Fire

6. Deerhunter – Nothing Ever Happened

5. M83 – Kim & Jessie

4. Santogold – L.E.S. Artistes

3. Hot Chip – Ready For The Floor

2. Fleet Foxes –White Winter Hymnal

1. Hercules and Love Affair – Blind
