[Listen]: Beyonce/Andre 3000’s Cover Of Amy Winehouse’s “Back To Black”

By Will Oliver, April 29th 2013 — with 1 comment

There’s a lot of good stuff to be found on The Great Gatsby’s soundtrack. I really enjoyed what we heard from The xx, Florence + The Machine, and Lana Del Rey. Probably one of the most anticipated tracks was Andre 3000 & Beyonce’s cover of Amy Winehouse’s “Back To Black.”

Mark Ronson, the producer of the Winehouse original premiered the song on his EastVillageRadio show. The first half features Andre 3000, with Beyonce taking over the second half. I’m sorry to say that this cover is not doing anything for me. I don’t think it’s doing any justice to her original either. I like both Andre/Beyonce, but I think this was a misfire.

Listen to a radio rip of the cover below. Beware of the ultra-annoying radio tags. Incase you missed it, EastVillageRadio is who played it…

[new]: T.I. – Sorry (Feat. Andre 3000)

By Will Oliver, November 27th 2012

T.I.’s new single “Sorry” features Andre 3000, and Andre 3000 delivers one of his best verses of lare. Truth is, Andre is hardly around these days, so any verse is a good verse, but the one on the reflective “Sorry” is damn good. T.I. is sounding quite vulnerable and reflective as well, and this results in one of my favorite song’s from him in a long time.

“Sorry” is off T.I.’s new album Trouble Man: Heavy Is The Head, out on December 18.

Gorillaz – DoYaThing (Feat. Andre 3000 and James Murphy)

A little while ago Zane Lowe premiered “DoYaThing”, the Converse collaboration between Gorillaz, Outkast’s Andre 3000 and LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy. I think the real star of the track is Andre 3000, who has a killer verse. Time for some new Outkast. Please.

The song will be given away for free tomorrow, but ListenBeforeYouBuy was quick enough to record it. Check out a stream below.

Big Boi’s Outkast hosted label Jive prevented the Andre 3000 featured song “Lookin’ For Ya” from appearing on Sir Luscious Left Foot. Damn shame ’cause it rules pretty hard.

They recently dropped a new remix of the song that they are calling the Jedi Remix. It featured new verses from both of the Outkast dudes. It’s pretty great. Take it in, ’cause who knows when we will get another Outkast album. Though, it may be sooner than I originally thought.

[mp3]: Andre 3000 – “All Together Now” (The Beatles Cover)

During the NBA finals, there was a Kobe Bryant Nike commercial that featured Andre 3000, of Outkast fame, covering The Beatles’ “All Together Now”. It was only a teaser but the whole song was released a single on itunes last week, and now it’s found its way all over the web.

Andre 3000 transforms The Beatles classic into a soulful jazzy little number. Andre 3000 had an incredible vision for his interpretation for the song, and he sure capitalized on it. Download it below, and buy it from itunes if you liked it.

Outkast at Firefly Music Festival 2014

By Will Oliver, July 7th 2014

As much as it pained me to miss Outkast at Governors Ball, I found comfort in the fact that I’d be able to catch them at Firefly. Believe it or not, this actually wasn’t my first time seeing the dynamic duo. Believe it or not, I actually saw the duo back in 2002 at Giants Stadium, not that I truly appreciated it or anything.

The duo have been playing festival after festival, but showed no signs of fatigue or wear and tear. Now with the rust of their debut Coachella show much behind them, Outkast were firing on all cylanders, kicking their set off with a monstrous performance of “B.O.B.” From there it was a trip down memory lane, stretching as far back as early cuts such as “Rosa Parks” and “ATLiens” and bringing it forward with “The Way You Move”, “Ms. Jackson”, and of course, “Hey Ya”, which saw Andre 3000 bring out a bunch of young girls to dance on stage with him.

[new]: Florence + The Machine – Over The Love

By Will Oliver, April 18th 2013 — with 2 comments

I’m pretty nervous about The Great Gatsby film that is coming out. It looks like it could be either really great or really bad, and the fact that it got pushed back months is not a good sign (Gangster Squad). One thing most of us can agree on is that it’s going to have a solid soundtrack, as Jay-Z was the executive producer, and got acts like Jack White, the XX, Andre 3000/Beyonce, and Lana Del Rey.

He also got Florence + The Machine to contribute a new song, and we are able to stream that early thanks to GQ, who have the exclusive stream. The song is called “Over The Love”, and in typical Florence fashion is bombastic and really dramatic, but she usual.
