At The Drive-In at Terminal 5 (March 22, 2017)

By Will Oliver, March 30th 2017

Last year At The Drive-In announced they were once again reuniting (sans founding member Jim Ward) for a bunch of tour dates and even some new music. The tour dates included a long-awaited stop in New York, which they skipped during their 2012 reunion (although we caught them at Lollapalooza). They pegged a June show at Terminal 5, but had to cancel the show after doors were already open because singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala was sick. It looked like New Yorkers were going to have to wait some more to see the ATDI boys.

Here we are in 2017 and the band will release in•ter a•li•a, their first album in 17 years (via Rise Records). With the announcement came more show dates, including a March 22 Terminal 5 makeup for New York. The show featured support from Mexican garage-rockers Le Butcherettes, who are longtime associates with Omar Rodriguez-Lopez.

At The Drive-In @ Lollapalooza (August 5, 2012)

By Will Oliver, August 10th 2012 — with 1 comment

At The Drive-In took the stage opposing Florence + The Machine. Florence is cool and all, but come on people. There was no excuse for missing these guys, who are only doing this one-off reunion that is sure to be a rare treat for those of us lucky to be in the audience.

The band didn’t disappoint, bringing us all back to the earlier times in our lives when their music captured our angry minds. Musically it was one of the – if not the most – rocking sets of the festival. The band sounded great, time hasn’t changed their ability to perform together. It makes me curious as to where they will go next.

At The Drive-In Are Reuniting

By Will Oliver, January 9th 2012

At The Drive-In shocked the music world today with a tweet announcing that they are getting back together after 11 years of silence. The band broke up in 2001 and members split into The Mars Volta and Sparta, respectively.

No other details have been announced yet, but I’m guessing we will see a tour announcement sometime soon. If we get a new album too, that’s a bonus. It’s good to see that there is still hope out there that more broken bands can squash their beef and reunite.

Check out the band’s tweet below.

Favorite Concert Photos of 2017

Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Kings Theatre (November 7)

If nothing else, we covered more shows in 2017 than ever before. In addition to my usual show-going madness, we had a great number of contributions from our amazing team of photographer friends here on the site both old and new. From the major festivals to the arena show, to the tiniest DIY club, we tried to be everywhere and anywhere that good music flowed.

Below are just a handful of some of the shots that our cameras snapped in 2017, listed in chronological order, along with the link to the show coverage and the appropriate credit. Thanks to everyone on the small but growing We All Want Someone team for their contributions and for you the readers for giving us the motivation to keep fighting the good fight.

Without further ado, here are some of our favorite live shots from 2017 (we will have a list ranking our top shows coming later today as well)

Lollapalooza 2012 Recap

By Will Oliver, August 11th 2012

I made it back to Chicago again this summer to make my mark on Lollapalooza. The festival takes place in the heart of Grant Park, shutting down a few city blocks along with it. It was a impressive hike between all of the stages, which created quite the trek when you factor in the insane heat that we saw. There was also a evacuation on Day 2 that made things dangerous and chaotic.

On a basic level, this is definitely one of the big boys in terms of American summer festivals. The lineup was stacked in many ways, and pretty balanced. There was something for everyone playing at all hours. I definitely will go back again, and will hopefully see you guys next year.

Below find all my coverage from the festival, as it is listed from bands on a day-to-day basis.

Lollapalooza Announces 2012 Lineup

By Will Oliver, April 12th 2012 — with 1 comment

There’s a ton of great summer music festivals to consider this summer, and now we can officially share the lineup for the 2012 edition of Lollapalooza.

The headliners are Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys, Black Sabbath, and Jack White. Then you got Florence + The Machine, At The Drive-In, The Shins, Passion Pit, Sigur Ros, Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, The Walkmen, The Tallest Man On Earth, Toro Y Moi, Dr. Dog,  Justice, The Weeknd, Santigold, Metric, The Temper Tramp, The Head & The Heart, The Big Pink, Alabama Shakes, The Gaslight Anthem, Tame Impala, Neon Indian, Washed Out, Chairlift, Yellow Ostrich, White Rabbits, Sharon Van Etten.

For me, the two big ones are Bloc Party, and Franz Ferdinand, who both haven’t toured in a while. Hopefully this means a new album in the not too soon future from the latter. It’s also going to be cool to witness the return of Black Sabbath, and even At The Drive-In. Overall, it’s a pretty strong lineup from top to bottom, and one that certainly rivals the other big festivals.

For the full lineup, head to the Lollapalooza site. Maybe I will see you there.

Coachella 2012 Lineup

By Will Oliver, January 10th 2012 — with 3 comments

The 2012 Coachella lineup has been revealed and as usual, it’s massive. The three headliners are The Black Keys, Radiohead, and Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg. Then you got the return of Pulp and At The Drive-In (who just announced their reunion today), Bon Iver, Arctic Monkeys, The Shins, Jeff Mangum, Justice, Beirut, The Weeknd, Florence & The Machine, M83, The Rapture, Girls, The Horrors, WU LYF, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, St. Vincent, Santigold, Real Estate, Kasabian, Azealia Banks, Kaiser Chiefs, The Vaccines, and Wild Beasts are also there, just to name a few.

Money is tight for all of us, but a lineup like this is hard to resist. The festival takes place on two weekends this year: April 13-15 and the second April 20-22. The lineups will be the same, it’s just so damn epic they need two of them. Three day passes go on sale this Friday and start at $285 (source).

Don’t know if I can make it out, although I would really love to. Do you plan to make the trip?
