CHVRCHES

It seems like everyone is covering Arctic Monkeys these days. Which says a lot about the power of AM and how its elevated the band a few steps further across the globe.

We just recently saw Miley Cyrus cover the band, and now CHVRCHES add their own Arctic Monkeys cover. They tackled “Do I Wanna Know?” (which the band performed acoustic at Avatar Studios last week). CHVRCHES covered the song for Australian radio station Triple J, for their Like A Version segment.

CHVRCHES take “Do I Wanna Know?” and add their coldy synthy touch, keeping the vocal intesnity but adding different layers on the way.

Watch their performance below.

CHVRCHES @ Terminal 5 (9.22.2013)

It was just a few months ago in March that I caught CHVRCHES at the tiny 285 Kent. In that span the Glasgow elctro-pop trio have continued to crawl up the popularity ladder, already selling out Terminal 5. An impressive feat considering they just released their debut album The Bones of What You Believe last week.

Andrew St. Clair was at Terminal 5 Sunday night, taking in the band’s performance with some great photos of their live set. Check out his collection of shots below which includes one of their setlist. Read the rest of this entry »

CHVRCHES – Falling (Haim Cover)

By Will Oliver, July 9th 2013

Chvrches

In what is practically a match made in heaven, CHVRCHES have covered Haim’s “Falling.” The Glasgow band did it when they s stopped by BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge. They give in a electronic spin that gives in a new feel but doesn’t change it’s identity. It’s a fun cover.

CHVRCHES – Gun

By Will Oliver, June 14th 2013

CHVRCHES

Over the past few weeks I have been busy either traveling or away all day at Governors Ball. When you’re away for a minute, the law of nature basically says that everything new and interesting will come out while your away. I do try and catch up and make sure I share all of the goodness with you guys, but I’m sort of human, and often miss stuff.

Somehow I missed a new song from CHVRCHES, a band whose every release I have been following like bread crumbs since last year. It’s called “Gun” and it is a sugar coated electro-pop offering in the same vein as their previous releases. There’s just something that’s simple and addictive about them, it’s hard to imagine how they aren’t being played on the radio.

It’s off their debut album The Bones Of What You Believe which comes out September 23 via Virgin Records. Stream it below and hit the jump for it’s newly released music video.

If you’re not watching Game Of Thrones, you’re doing something wrong. All that you’ve heard about it is true; it’s one of the best shows going right now. The theme song is always a powerful way to start the show, and it’s easily one of the more recognizable themes out there.

Electro-pop band Chvrches had some fun and took a stab on the theme, giving it a touch of synth to give it a more playful sound. It’s a cool cover. Listen below.

Chvrches @ 285 Kent (March 19, 2013)

There’s been a lot of hoopla around Scottish band Chvrches. They’ve been one of the buzzier bands of the last few months, and for good reason. First, the spelling of their name. It just stands out. Then you take in to account their sound. Absolutely shameless addictive synth-pop that easily casts a spell on you if you let it.

The first time I heard their single “The Mother We Share” I was sold. Next single “Recover” hit me just as hard, and it may be even better. They played both of those songs live to rapid reaction, rightfully so. For the most part, the band sound sharp and ready to do big things live, given a little more time.

The band still have a few things to work out. Lead singer Lauren Mayberry is perfectably capable as a vocalist, it’s just she seems quite shy live. When synth-player Martin Doherty took the center spot and lead on vocals she seemed to relax a little more. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a great voice and a perfect centerpiece of the band. I just think that after a few more legs in the tour that Chvrches will come back and be an even bigger force live.
