Preview: Cherry Glazerr at Bowery Ballroom

By Will Oliver, January 17th 2017

Los Angeles indie rockers Cherry Glazerr will release their great new album Apocalipstick this Friday, January 20, via Secretly Canadian.

They are currently on tour in support of the new album, brining the songs to life tomorrow, January 18, for a headlining performance at Bowery Ballroom. We last saw them open for Best Coast at Terminal 5, and even as the openers they nearly stole the whole damn show. We’re excited to hear all the new songs live, especially at the always wonderful Bowery. Opening the show is Slow Hollows and Mega Bog.

There are still some tickets for the show left, but move quick as I’m sure they won’t last long.

Slowdive at Terminal 5 (November 12, 2017)

By Will Oliver, December 18th 2017

This year saw English shoegazers Slowdive return with their first new album in 22 years. The self-titled release was released via Dead Oceans and sees the legends of the genre pick up right back where they left off. It’s impressive how strong of a work it is but again considering how strong their discography is, we shouldn’t be surprised that they hit it out of the park.

Recap: Pitchfork Music Festival 2017 [Day 2]

By Bryan Lasky, July 24th 2017

Saturday was a hot one, and many opted to sit in the shade and relax while the music played. Another eclectic bill from top to bottom took to the park, all starting with a rousing set from Vagabon and her band. The crowd was all in from the moment she stepped on the stage and she gave everything she had. Jeff Rosenstock was the happiest person on the planet when he took the stage. His energy was infectious and the crowd wildly approved his entire punk rock and new wave infused set. He joked about how much money the band was paid to play the fest as well as helped destroy a Trump piñata, much to the crowds adoration.

Preview: Pitchfork Music Festival 2017

By Will Oliver, July 7th 2017

The Pitchfork Music Festival has been going strong since 2006 and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The annual July pilgrimage by thousands of music lovers to the beautiful city of Chicago has once again put together a strong line up. Obviously many speak of going to Chicago for Lollapalooza, but this far more intimate affair is really the festival you want to hit in the windy city.

Everyone knows when they go to a festival who is headlining each day. This year’s trio is LCD Soundsystem, A Tribe Called Quest, and Solange. None of them need many words written about them since all three have tirelessly proven themselves over and over again. The undercard is truly what people need to look towards in today’s festival environment since there are so many now to choose from, it’s the undercard that sells. So here are some of the best of what the undercard has to offer.

The rest of the lineup is rounded out by MGMT, Future Islands, Belle & Sebastian, Spoon, Justice, Glass Animals, Angel Olsen, Tyler The Creator, Girl Talk, Mitski, Jagwar Ma, Vince Staples, Cloud Nothings, Proccupations, Foxygen, DJ Shadow, S U R V I V E, MØ, Cherry Glazerr, Pinegrove, and Bleached.

The fest once again takes place at Randall’s Island Park from July 28-30 and tickets go on sale this Friday at 10am.

Best Coast : Wavves

Next Thursday will feature an epic double-headlining bill at Terminal 5, featuring sets from both Best Coasts and Wavves. They’re calling in the “Summer Is Forever II” tour, a sequel to a similar tour that took place in 2011. Both released new records in 2015, with Best Coast releasing California Nights via Harvest Records, and Wavves releasing V via Ghost Ramp. Not only do we get sets from them, but also from rising L.A. group Cherry Glazerr

It’s bound to be a great night of music, and it will be interesting to see how the two crowds balance out. Wavves crowds tend to get a bit wild and out of hand, while Best Coast is a more chilled out set. It will be an interesting night of music to say the least, and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.

Tickets for the show are still available to purchase right here. We’ll have coverage of the show coming this way very soon.

Julian Casablancas and the Voidz at House of Vans (August 14, 2015)

By Anthony Bauer, December 23rd 2015 — with 1 comment

On a summer night back in August, we were treated with the first of three free summertime shows at the House of Vans in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. All three shows were very much New York City centric in that all three shows featured headlining act’s that all reign from NYC itself. First up was no stranger to the NYC music scene – it was The Strokes’ very own Julian Casablancas with his other band, The Voidz. Along for the ride and opening the show up was LA’s Cherry Glazerr.
