Chromeo at Governors Ball 2015

By Will Oliver, August 3rd 2015 — with 1 comment

1_Chromeo_Governors Ball 2015

If Governors Ball has any veterans, it’s gotta be electro-funk rockers Chromeo, a familiar name that has graced the stage many times at Randall’s Island Park. Only this year was their biggest moment to date, as the band took over a mid-afternoon set at the mainstage.

The appearance followed their longstanding tour for last year’s White Women. The duo of Dave 1 and P-Thugg rose to the occasion big time, getting everyone in the crowd to show off their best fancy footwork. They had a few tricks up their sleeve, teasing the all-too-familiar guitar riff of Vampire Weekend’s “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa.” The tease wasn’t random, as soon enough Chromeo was joined by Vampire Weekend’s very own Ezra Koenig, who then launched into a full on version of the track, and stuck around to help out on “Bonafied Lovin (Tough Guys).” It was a very New York moment, one that the city didn’t take for granted.

Find some shots from the performance posted below, along with a video of Ezra’s appearance.

Photos: Chromeo at Central Park Summerstage (September 12, 2014)

On Friday night Chromeo played to a sold out Central Park crowd in support of their recently released White Women along with Big Freedia, who opened up for them.

As usual, the duo of Dave 1 and P-Thugg brought their funky-fresh dance expertise to the Central Park crowd and dazzled them into the wee hours of the night (well as far as Central Park’s curfew allows). Find photos of them and Big Freedia below, all of which were taken by our very own Dana Pacifico.

Chromeo – Ezra’s Interlude (Feat. Ezra Koenig)

By Will Oliver, April 28th 2014

Ezra's Interlude

Chromeo have already shared with us quite a few tracks off their soon to be released new album White Women (May 12). Try four in total: “Come Alive”, “Jealous (I Ain’t With It)”, “Over Your Shoulder” and “Sexy Socialite.”

A while back they also shared with us a little interlude featuring vocals from their pal Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend. It’s a little ballad that lets Ezra do his thing, barely stretching two minutes.

Enjoy it below.

[SXSW]: Chromeo @ Hype Hotel (March 12, 2014)

By Will Oliver, March 19th 2014 — with 1 comment

What better way to end my first day of SXSW than catching Chromeo? Especially at the Hype Hotel, which was a rather intimate place to see a band like Chromeo who can most certainly fill up large spaces.

Dave 1 & P-Thugg mixed business with pleasure, seriously hammering through all of their classic tracks, but doing it with a smile. They got a full fledged dance party in the crowd, a well earned victory for sure.

When you see Chromeo, you must be prepared to cut loose and take part in all dance activities. The duo always deliver an energetic performance that begs for movement, and if you don’t oblige, it just be plain disrespectful. They mostly stuck with classics, but they also delivered a fair share of the new material off their upcoming LP, White Women.

I’m excited to see what kind of damage the new album will do, especially when I see them at Terminal 5 in May. Find some more photos of their performance which are posted below.

[music video]: Chromeo – Come Alive (Feat. Toro y Moi)

By Will Oliver, February 3rd 2014 — with 1 comment

Chromeo and Toro Y Moi are a dream team match-up on their awesome track “Come Alive.”

They’ve released a pretty wacky music video for it starring Chromeo’s Dave 1 and P-Thugg as well as Chaz Bundick. In the video weird things happen at night in a mall where mannequins come to life, dance, and get frisky.

Alex Southam directed the video, which you can watch below.

Chuck Inglish – Legs (Feat. Chromeo)

By Will Oliver, January 21st 2014

Chuck Inglish - Legs

The Cool Kids are currently working on their new album Shark Week. In between that, The Cool Kids very own Chuck Inglish embarked on his own solo album, which is titled Convertibles. The album will be released April 8 via Dave Sitek’s Federal Prism, as well as Inglish’s Sounds Like Fun.

You can listen to the Chromeo featured single “Legs” right now. It certainly sounds very much like a Chromeo track, with a big funky groove. Throw in Inglish’s rhyme’s, and you got one hell of a combination.

Check it out below.

[new]: Chromeo – Come Alive (Feat. Toro Y Moi)

By Will Oliver, January 9th 2014 — with 1 comment

Chromeo - Come Alive (Feat. Toro Y Moi)

Chromeo’s new album White Women doesn’t even have a release date yet, but we’re going to go out on a limb and guess that it’s sometime in 2014. They’ve already teased us with two tracks from the LP: “Over Your Shoulder” and “Sexy Socialite.”

Now they’ve released yet another track, and it’s pretty special. It’s called “Come Alive” and it features Toro Y Moi.

Chromeo + Toro Y Moi. That’s a pretty dreamy team if you ask me. Apparently he won’t be the only guest to appear on the album. According to Spin, the other White Women guests spots include Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, Solange, LCD Soundsystem’s Pat Mahoney, and two-piece Oliver who are signed to Fool’s Gold.

The disco-funk hits hard here, added by the chill groove’s of Toro Y Moi. It’s going to be an awesome track to hear live.

Even though the album hasn’t officially been announced, a tour for it has (which makes me believe a surprise album drop is on the way). The tour includes a stop here in New York City at Terminal 5 on May 16. Tickets for that go on sale here Friday at noon.

Groove to “Come Alive” below where you can also find all their upcoming U.S. tour dates.

Chromeo + Death From Above 1979 - Sexy Socialite

Chromeo have a new album called White Women coming out sometime soon. They’ve already shared two cuts from the album “Over Your Shoulder” and “Sexy Socialite.”

The other day Chromeo stopped by Jimmy Fallon to play “Sexy Socialite.” Interestingly enough, they did it with a little help from Death From Above 1979. It was pretty freaking awesome.

Check out the collaborative performance below.

[new]: Chromeo – Sexy Socialite

By Will Oliver, October 25th 2013

Chromeo - SS

Chromeo have a new album called White Women on the way. No official release date has been shared with us yet, but we already heard awesome first single,  “Over Your Sohulder.”

They’ve shared another cut from the album, the funky-fierce energetic track “Sexy Socialite.” It features everything that a good Chromeo track should, traces of disco, heavy synths, backup female vocals, and of course, some vocoder vocals from P-Thugg. Oh, and drummer Pat Mahoney from LCD Soundsystem guests on the drums for this one.

What are you waiting for? Dig into “Sexy Socialite” below. Read the rest of this entry »
