1_CHVRCHES_Central Park Summerstage

On a breezy night at September 29, Glasgow synth-pop trio CHVRCHES made their proper return to New York for a sold out performance at Central Park for one of the final Summerstage shows of the year. Although the group stopped in to the city for a smaller performance at Music Hall of Williamsburg in July, this was their first proper show in support of their sophomore record Every Open Eye, which was released via Glassnote Records.

This performance came only days after catching them at the Landmark Music Festival in Washington, DC, but definitely was more passionate with the energy raised by a crowd full of real fans, through and through. Every time I look and CHVRCHES just seem to be getting bigger and bigger. You got to wonder what will come next for these guys. The sky is the limit.

Find some photos from their Summerstage performance posted below, along with Australian group and fellow Glassnote labelmate Mansionair, who opened the show.

[new]: CHVRCHES – “Leave A Trace”

By Will Oliver, July 16th 2015 — with 1 comment

Today Glasgow electro-pop trio CHVRCHES announced that their new album is titled Every Open Eye, and will be released on September 25 via Glassnote Records. The group recorded the album last year at their own Alucard Studios in Glasgow, the same place where they made their debut.

They followed that announcement with the release of their brand new single “Leave A Trace.” The group don’t seem to miss a beat from their 2013 breakthrough debut The Bones of What You Believe. It’s a song that sounds triumphant as all hell, with the vocals of frontwoman Lauren Mayberry push to the forefront, ready and able to deliver the punchful choruses that will soon be lodged into your brains. I can already see its placement in crucial movie scenes in the immediate future.

Stream “Leave A Trace” below, and check out some tour dates below. The band also announced they will play a special intimate show at Music Hall of Williamsburg next Thursday, with tickets going on sale tomorrow at noon.

On June 15 the still red hot Chvrches played a free daytime show at McCarren Park as a side of Northside Fest. It featured opening sets from Brooklyn’s Hunters as well as Providence-based producer The Range.

I was there and will share a recap/my own photos, but Andrew St. Clair was also there and shared with us his photos of all three acts. Find all of them posted below.

It seems like everyone is covering Arctic Monkeys these days. Which says a lot about the power of AM and how its elevated the band a few steps further across the globe.

We just recently saw Miley Cyrus cover the band, and now CHVRCHES add their own Arctic Monkeys cover. They tackled “Do I Wanna Know?” (which the band performed acoustic at Avatar Studios last week). CHVRCHES covered the song for Australian radio station Triple J, for their Like A Version segment.

CHVRCHES take “Do I Wanna Know?” and add their coldy synthy touch, keeping the vocal intesnity but adding different layers on the way.

Watch their performance below.

CHVRCHES @ Terminal 5 (9.22.2013)

By Will Oliver, September 24th 2013

It was just a few months ago in March that I caught CHVRCHES at the tiny 285 Kent. In that span the Glasgow elctro-pop trio have continued to crawl up the popularity ladder, already selling out Terminal 5. An impressive feat considering they just released their debut album The Bones of What You Believe last week.

Andrew St. Clair was at Terminal 5 Sunday night, taking in the band’s performance with some great photos of their live set. Check out his collection of shots below which includes one of their setlist. Read the rest of this entry »

CHVRCHES – Falling (Haim Cover)

By Will Oliver, July 9th 2013

In what is practically a match made in heaven, CHVRCHES have covered Haim’s “Falling.” The Glasgow band did it when they s stopped by BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge. They give in a electronic spin that gives in a new feel but doesn’t change it’s identity. It’s a fun cover.
