Vampire_Weekend - Step

In 2013, Vampire Weekend had as good of a year as any. They released one of my favorite albums of the year, and headlined Barclays Center.

They capped it off in proper style, releasing a “wintertime remix” of “Step” (my favorite song of the year) last week featuring Danny Brown, Heems, & Despot. They shred the remix on twitter, and it’s available to grab as a free mp3 download below.

The two wrote a new song titled “Molly Rangwald”, on the spot and it will later be recorded on a 7″ on Yours Truly’s Love Letters Ink Imprint. “Molly Ringwald” will be available to download on July 17. [CMJ]: Danny Brown @ Fader Fort (10/22/2011)

By Will Oliver, October 24th 2011

Even I have been paying attention to the hype that rapper Danny Brown has been getting from the indie hip-hop world this year. Did he live up to it? Easily.

As you’ve surely noticed, live rap shows can be hit or miss. Especially with me. So for me to say that I had a lot of fun keeping up with this up and comer from Detroit is saying a lot. His deliver is pretty distinct, allowing him to stand out from the overwhelming amount of rappers popping up these days.

There’s probably a reason a label such as Fool’s Gold signed him up. He’s got a lot going for him. He’s an interesting watch, and an even more interesting listen.

Governors Ball 2017 Announces Lineup

By Will Oliver, January 4th 2017

We may be only a few days into the new year but that means it’s time for all the music festivals to reveal their 2017 lineups. Here in New York there’s quite a few festivals starting to emerge, but there’s only one that we have relied on year in and year out: Governors Ball.

They’ve announced this year’s edition of the festival (at Randall’s Island as usual), and it’s as varied and eclectic of a mix as ever. Headlining the festival is Tool, Chance The Rapper, Phoenix, and Childish Gambino. Then you got Lorde, Flume, Wu-Tang Clan, Wiz Khalifa, Logic, Cafe The Elephant, and Mark Ronson vs Kevin Parker. From there, highlights include Beach House, Schoolboy Q, Air, The Avalanches, Franz Ferdinand, Phantogram, The Head and the Heart, Banks, Local Natives, Mac DeMarco, Parquet Courts, Royal Blood, Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires, Danny Brown, Michael Kiwanuka, Warpaint, Car Seat Headrest, The Range, The Orwells, Ron Gallo, and even former BBC radio host Zane Lowe.

We’ve been covering Governors Ball every year since the second edition, and are excited to hopefully return this year to see what new memories this years edition of the festival brings. Tickets for the festival go on sale this Friday at noon, with early bird pricing starting at $275.

See you at Randall’s Island this summer!
