Day Wave at Baby’s All Right (November 14, 2016)

By Will Oliver, January 8th 2017

Jackson Phillips’ Day Wave made their return to New York for a sold out performance at Baby’s All Right in Williamsburg on November 14.

They’re hard at work on their first proper full-length debut, which will be released via Harvest Records sometime in 2017. They played all the material they’ve released so far via their 2-EP combo release Headcase / Hard To Read, as well as their most recent single “Wasting Time.”

Find their full setlist posted below, along with photos of both Day Wave’s set, as well as local band Future Generations, who opened the show.

Day Wave, the Oakland-based group led by Jackson Phillips, have signed to Harvest Records, who will released their debut album sometime next year. It doesn’t seem like we will have to wait all that long, as they have shared the album’s first single, the ultra-dreamy “Wasting Time.”

Phillips continues to embark on his signature bliss-filled dreamscapes that just leave your mind at ease. Even so, the group showcases flashier production on the new single, with a guitar solo to boot and all.

Day Wave will be back in New York next Monday, November 14, for a show at Baby’s All Right. This may be the last time you see them at such an intimate venue at Bowery, with Bowery/MHOW probably on the horizon next. We can expect some new songs are bound to be tested, so this will be your first taste of their album. Tickets are currently still on sale for now.

[new]: Day Wave – ” Stuck”

By Will Oliver, February 16th 2016

Day Wave

Day Wave will return with new EP Hard To Read on March 4 via Grand Jury Music. Copies of the EP are packaged with his great debut Headcase EP, forming a little mini-album sampler of all of Jackson Phillips’ with the group work to date.

Today he shared EP single “Stuck” on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 “World Record” show. It’s yet another dreamy excursion from the group who delightfully find ways to conjure up warmer feelings that are well needed and appreciated during days of cold temperatures and snowfall. It’s amazing that Phillips has already created a signature sound for his music when he hasn’t even technically released his album yet. It’s a testament to his work as an artist, and an encouraging sign for things to come.

Stream “Stuck” below and find his interview with Zane Lowe embedded right after that. Physical downloads of the EP are available to purchase here, as well as digitally from iTunes here.

[new]: Day Wave – “Gone”

By Will Oliver, January 18th 2016

Day Wave

Jackson Phillips and Day Wave had a great 2015, and the look to keep the momentum going strong with a new EP titled Hard To Read coming out March 4 via Grand Jury Music. It will be packaged along with last year’s Headcase EP to form a great 1-2 combination almost serving as a showcase for their eventual proper full-length.

Based on new single and EP track “Gone,” Phillips is continuing his winning ways. “Gone” taps into some well needed feelings of summer-inspired melancholy and nostalgia. He hasn’t released a full-length album yet, but he already has developed a signature sound that is instantly recognizable as his own.

Enjoy a stream of “Gone” below.

Day Wave at Mercury Lounge (August 19, 2015)

By Will Oliver, December 23rd 2015

1_Day Wave_Mercury Lounge

Jackson Phillips’ Day Wave has as good of 2015 as anyone out there, and this included a stop at Mercury Lounge for his first ever NYC live performance. Of course he sold it out, it was just that sort of year for him. The tunes speak for themselves, and they sounded perfect on that warm summer day back in August.

I really can’t wait to see what the group has in store for us in 2016.

Find some shots from the Mercury Lounge performance posted below.

Day Wave – “Ceremony” (New Order Cover)

By Will Oliver, August 18th 2015

Day Wave

I’ve spent plenty of time this summer with Day Wave’s summery Headcase EP. Even with the recent release of the EP, Day Wave’s Jackson Phillips still has some new music to offer to us in the form of a cover.

The song of choice is the classic New Order tune “Ceremony,” which Phillips welcomely embraces with that now familiar easy going sound of his, while still being faithful to the original.

Tomorrow night he will make his NYC live debut at Mercury Lounge. Tickets for the show are still available. Hope to see you there.

Enjoy his cover below.

Stream: Day Wave – Headcase [EP]

By Will Oliver, July 14th 2015 — with 1 comment

Day Wave

Throughout the first half of 2015, Oakland’s Jackson Phillips has kept our attention with his new solo project Day Wave, releasing consistently amazing songs such as “Drag” and “We Try But We Don’t Fit In” that have perfectly captured that timeless summer feeling. Phillips has rounded up these tracks for a nice shiny package that will be released this Friday in the form of his debut EP, Headcase.

He recently released the EP’s closer (and title track) “Headcase,” a melancholiac wonder that leaves your mind in a stunning daze. It rounds out his impressive formative release, proving that Day Wave is one of the brightest up-and-comers in indie rock.

Below you can stream “Headcase” individually, along with the entire EP. If you like what you hear, go and support Day Wave and grab the EP over at iTunes. You can also find upcoming tour dates, which includes opening slots for Blonde Redhead, and a stop at NYC’s Mercury Lounge (tickets are available here).
