Earl Sweatshirt at Governors Ball 2014

By Will Oliver, June 16th 2014

It was an Odd Future takeover at Governors Ball on Sunday as Earl Sweatshirt’s set was an hour before Tyler, The Creator’s set, occurring at the opposing stages right across the field from one another.

As expected, the set did feature a guest appearance form Tyler who performed his part on “Whoa.” Even with the Odd Future support, this was Earl’s set. It was hard to imagine that only a few years ago we were wondering when the guy would be back in the public eye. Here he was, playing to a packed crowd at Governors Ball, doing his own thing. The crowd was a bit calmer than I would have guessed, but then again Earl’s material can tend to be a bit more leaner than Tyler’s stuff. Even so, he still was able to find moments of opportunity to get the crowd fired up. Read the rest of this entry »

Tyler & Earl

“Look’ is a new track from Odd Future members Tyler, The Creator, HodgyBeats, Domo Genesis, & Earl Sweatshirt.

They released it a few days ago as a little surprise for fans, and it does wonders. Each of them add their own unique touch on a pretty tight beat made by producer Nottz. Odd Future feels alive and well with this one.

Take a listen to “Look” below.

Captain Murphy

The latest Adult Swim Singles Series contribution comes from Captain Murphy, the alter-ego rap side-project of Flying Lotus. He ropes in Earl Sweatshirt as he did on last years Series with “Between Friends.” Appropriately Viktor Vaugn, the alter-ego of rapper DOOM, guests on the song along with Thundercat.

It will be available for a free download on Monday, but for now you can stream it below.

“Sunday” is the latest track to come out from Earl Sweatshirt’s new album Doris. It’s a special one because it features Frank Ocean rapping a verse, marking their first collaboration together since Frank’s “Super Rich Kids.” Ocean makes reference to his incident with Chris Brown.

It’s not the best quality but it’s a stream nevertheless. Enjoy “Sunday” below. Doris comes out August 20.

[new]- Earl Sweatshirt - Hive (Feat. Vince Staples and Casey Veggies)

Earl Sweatshirt is starting to gear up for the release of his new album Doris which comes out August 20. He’s shared a new track called “Hive” that features both Vince Staples & Casey Veggies and is perfectly released for a late night listen.

A throbbing bass kicks “Hive” into gear and an assured Earl leads us into a heavy eyelid-stoner vibe that is sent home with a killer verse from Vince Staples, who leaves me quite impressed here. Really good track, that gets a perfectly tailor-made video. Enjoy it below.

I had no problem moving around Fader Fort or getting into photo pits or any of that stuff at all during SXSW. That all changed when it was time to see Earl Sweatshirt. Shouldn’t be a surprise as the member of Odd Future had been virtually missing for a while, making these early shows a must see for everyone.

Earl came out with Flying Lotus as his DJ (as Captain Murphy), and entertained with a well mannered set. For a relatively youngster, Earl has a fine command on the stage and was doing his thing with ease. Everyone in attendance had a sense that we were getting a glimpse at Earl at a small stage, as we all know that it’s only a matter of time until his career fully skyrockets.

I was left impressed with what Earl delivered live, and would have no hesitation to see him again. As a side note, it was strange to see Flying Lotus just hanging in the back as his DJ/hype man.

Earl Sweatshirt

Earl Sweatshirt is back with “Whoa”, the latest track to be released from his new album Doris. It features none-other than Tyler, The Creator, who also ended up directing the music video.

It has a thrilling old-school grime vibe that is just about as good as it gets. Honestly, Earl is right on the mark with “Whoa”. Love the little mention of the Knicks roster.

Take a listen below.

Here’s “Chum”, also from the album.
