[new]: Foster The People – Pseudologia Fantastica

By Will Oliver, February 21st 2014

Foster The People

Foster The People return with their new album Supermodel on March 18 via Columbia Records. First single “Coming Of Age” was fine, but it’s the latest cut from the band “Pseudologia Fantastica” that has my attention.

It’s a dreamy and lush track that has its sights set higher, playing around with elements of shoegaze that are a good look for the band.

Take a listen to it below. I’ve also attached the video for first single “Coming Of Age.”

Foster The People – Say It Ain’t So (Weezer Cover)

By Will Oliver, August 12th 2011 — with 1 comment

Last night while opening for Cut Copy at Prospect Park (read my recap here), Foster The People delivered a very solid opening set that made me an even bigger of the hot rising band. If you’ve been paying attention, you saw that Weezer covered Fosters’ smash hit “Pumped Up Kicks” at a Weezer concert a few days ago.

Late in their set last night, Mark Foster, lead singer of Foster The People told the crowd about a time a few years ago when he met Rivers Cuomo from Weezer at a L.A. party and played a song for Rivers on an acoustic guitar. Foster then told us how honored he was that Weezer covered their song. He responded the only way they could. By covering Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So”. It was Mark’s way of returning the favor. The band hit it out of the park. They should be proud of their cover, it’s all kinds of awesome.

Take home an mp3 while you’re at it:

Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks (The Knocks Remix)

By Will Oliver, April 18th 2011 — with 2 comments

The Knocks get the honor of releasing the first official remix of Foster The People’s “Pumped Up Kicks”. The original is a perfect representation of the feel good sensation that summer brings us. If your going to remix a song like that, you better find a way to make it sound fresh, in a new light.

This remix does just that. Hat tip to The Knocks, this ain’t half bad, at all.

Foster The People Announce Debut Album: Torches

By Will Oliver, March 1st 2011 — with 3 comments

I’ve been excited to see what else Foster The People could pump out ever since I first heard “Pumped Up Kicks”. Last month they teased us with the 3 song Pumped Up Kicks EP. They finally announced that they have a debut album on the way.

On May 24th the bands debut album, Torches, will be released via Columbia Records/StarTime Intl. The band will begin touring this month, so fans should be able to hear some songs off the album.

Can’t wait to see what other pop rock gems that these guys are able to deliver. I wish I could catch them in NYC, but hopefully they will come back at a better date for me. Check out their current tour dates after the jump:

[new] Foster The People – Helena Beat

By Will Oliver, January 9th 2011

We finally have a new song from Foster The People. The masterful gem that was “Pumped Up Kicks” saw a lot of action this summer. Now the band has delighted us with a brand new song called “Helenda Beat”. The band says that this song will be included on their debut EP, rightfully titled Pumped Up Kicks.

The band’s giving “Helena Beat” as a free mp3 download, and it’s a real treat. It’s pretty clear that these Los Angelas kids know how to craft a catchy song. It shines bright with a cool summer breeze that you’re going to want to blast loud and proud out of your car.

Grab it, and play it at your next party. People will appreciate it. Enjoy the bands low-key status while it lasts. There’s no doubt in my mind that these guys are going to become extremely popular within the next year or so. Mark my words.

[essential summer jam]: Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks

By Will Oliver, July 3rd 2010 — with 12 comments

Foster The People are my latest obsession. I discovered them after Pigeons and Planes selected them for his song on DailyBeatz incredible Blogwave Summer 2010 playlist. I’m practically living off this song. Who needs food & water when you got essential jams blasting out of your speakers.

It probably is “the” chill song of 2010 for me right now. With a bassline that is literally dripping with a cool confidence, it sets the way for more than appropriate low-fi vocals that are a perfect fit. Try not to whistle along when the PB&J-esque whistling kicks in towards the end. The chorus is just full fledged glory. These guys have crafted a song that is guaranteed to give you more than its fair share of good vibes.

Foster The People started as Mark Foster and grew into something more late into fall of 2009. The band is based out of Los Angeles, and is surely one of the it bands of 2010 to keep an eye out for. Be sure to save some room for “Pumped Up Kicks” on your essential summer 2010 playlists. Big things are on the way for these guys. People are calling them the next MGMT type indie explosion. I would love to see that.

I wish I had my own record label, because I would have signed these guys instantly. Mark Ronsen is apparently a huge fan of the guys and may even produce their album.

Like I said, big things.
