Four Tet at National Sawdust (March 20, 2018)

On the eve of a major snowstorm in late March, Four Tet brought the heat to a sold out crowd in Brooklyn at National Sawdust.  Four Tet is the project of Kieran Hebden, currently out on the road in support of his newest album New Energy (released in 2017 via Text Records). This most recent run of shows not only brought an intimate setting for Hebden, but it also saw one of the most awe-inspiring touring rigs I’ve seen in a long, long time.

This small run of shows was not only an intimate venue tour but also a tour with a fully immersive 360º sound that was synched up to a matching light show. The massive immersive sound rig consisted of at least an eight-speaker array above the crowd pointing down (with at least one subwoofer), two massive speakers to the left and right of the stage (facing in towards Hebden) as well as speakers on stands in the corners of the venue pointing in towards center stage which fully engulfed the crowd in sound.

[new]: Four Tet – Gillie Amma, I Love You

By Will Oliver, October 25th 2013

Only a few weeks ago Four Tet released his new album, Beautiful Rewind. He’s still staying busing. He’s also contributing songs to good organizations such as Everything Is New, which is a project that helps aid children located in Southeast India.

On January 20, the organization is releasing two albums called Sun Choir and BOATS. The albums’ proceeds will go to Scottish Love In Action, a charity that helps provide food, education, medicine and clothing to children in Southeast India. One of the albums, BOATS, consists of Four Tet’s new song “Gillie Amma, I Love You.”

It’s a lovely song that is a perfect fit for such a good cause. I hear elements of Sigur Ros in it.

Enjoy it below.

[new]: Four Tet – Parallel Jalebi

By Will Oliver, September 18th 2013

Four Tet

Four Tet previously announced his new album Beautiful Rewind would cut all the bullshit of the pre-release album cycle. No preorders, no trailers, no streams, etc. Only thing he is doing is giving us a few songs to sink our teeth into. The first song he shared was “Kool FM.” He’s followed that up with another track, the rhythmic “Parallel Jalebi.”

Stream it below. Beautiful Rewind will be out “soon” via Four Tet’s very own Text label.

Four Tet @ Webster Hall (May 8, 2013)

Four Tet stopped by Webster Hall on Wednesday as a part of the Red Bull Music Academy’s many shows currently taking place across the city.

Electronic acts can be a tough sell on me, as I often left disappointing by a lack of diversity during a set, but Four Tet delivered Wednesday night at Webster Hall.

He played a highly enjoyable set that was easy to vibe along to as well as to connect with emotionally. He mixed a thumping persistent heavy bass with chilly synths that he was able to fixate to his every need. I was pleasantly surprised by just how well Four Tet was able to integrate things into a live setting.

[new]: Four Tet – Jupiters

By Will Oliver, May 8th 2012

“Jupiters” is the new single from electronic artist Four Tet. It’s a track that plays around with all kinds of sounds, giving off a light, dreamy atmosphere. One listen to this will make you realize why Radiohead had him open.

He’s releasing it on his own label, Text. Stream it below.

Burial + Four Tet – Nova

By Will Oliver, March 9th 2012 — with 1 comment

Burial + Four Tet have teamed up for a new track called “Nova”. It brings the best of both of their worlds creating a stunning track that breaths emotional transport through moments of electronic bliss. It’s more sincere than any crap the radio is feeding you, and that’s the truth.

This isn’t the first time the duo has teamed up. About a year ago they released two tracks with Thom Yorke called “Ego” & “Mirror”.

[Listen] Burial, Four Tet, & Thom Yorke – Ego & Mirror

By Will Oliver, March 16th 2011 — with 3 comments

Thom Yorke, Burial, and Four Tet came together with plans to release a 12″ with two songs: “Ego” & “Mirror”. Both songs were played on Rinse FM earlier tonight and of course, links have spread like wildfire.

All three artists have become mainstays in the experimental music world, and expectations for this release are understandably high. Both songs deliver on their promise, providing listeners with sophistacted electronica that perfectly suites Mr. Yorke’s dreamy vocals. It’s a match made in heaven.

The 12″ will be released on Monday via Bleep, Four Tet’s record label. Pre-orders sold out immediately, but there’s still a chance to buy it at Bleep’s website when it comes out on Monday.
