Free Energy - Love Sign

January 15, 2013 | Free People | Purchase

Look around the musical landscape in 2013, and it seems like it’s all about having fun. Turn on the radio, walk into a bar, and you’re surround by music that capitalizes on the carefree nature of getting plastered and waiting for the “drop.” They say that EDM and pop works because it’s easy to digest and connects with audiences on a large scale. They also say rock is dead. With all that said, it’s hard to convince people that rock music is alive and well these days. Well, I would like to bring Free Energy into the conversation.

[new]: Free Energy – Street Survivor

By Will Oliver, December 11th 2012

Free Energy - Love Sign

RCRD LBL has the premiere of Free Energy’s latest track from Love Sign: “Street Survivor.”

This is a song I heard them deliver live at CMJ, and the recorded version carries the same kick and weight. Guitar hooks and feel good vibes carry the song, just begging to be heard and maximum volumes with lots of good beer and friends.

If there was ever party music that actually deserved to be played obnoxiously loud at your local bar, Love Sign is it.

If you pre-order the album from them now, you will get “Street Survivor” as a download right away. Check out “Electric Fever” “Hangin”, and “Dance All Night”, the previously released tracks from the album.

[new]: Free Energy – Hangin

Free Energy hit back with another new single, the appropriately titled “Hangin.” It’s of course on their new album Love Sign. The band stays true to themselves with big power chords and catchy chorus’, that make everything seem ok.

Take a listen below via Rolling Stone:

Love Sign is out January 15 via their own Free Energy Records. Be sure to check out “Electric Fever” and “Dance All Night”, which will both appear on the album as well.

[CMJ]: Free Energy @ Knitting Factory (October 20, 2012)

By Will Oliver, October 24th 2012 — with 1 comment

It’s been a while since the last time I saw Free Energy at the Knitting Factory (try 2 1/2 years). On Saturday the band rocked it as if they had never left. The band always come out and give the fans a good time, no matter where they are. They took the time to play some new stuff off their upcoming album, including the incredible “Dance All Night” and “Electric Fever”, which they released earlier in the year. Another standout new song is “Girls Want Rock.”

As always it was great to jam out to songs like “Something In Common” again, which always cause me to recall dozens of great memories that the song has provided me. That’s the beauty of Free Energy, it’s easy music to rock out to with your friends, allowing so many possible bonding experiences. That’s what music is all about, isn’t it?

Have never been let down by Free Energy at a show. Why would they start now?

[new]: Free Energy – Dance All Night

By Will Oliver, October 9th 2012

Free Energy have finally revealed the details of their new album. It’s titled Lovesign and will come out on January 15 via their own label, Free People.

If you know this blog, you know that we couldn’t be happier with this announcement. Best part is, the band have released the first single for the album today, and for free download.

It’s called “Dance All Night” and is a definite tribute to the rock ballads that our parents fell in love with in the 70s/80s. It’s got hints of nostalgia and lovesick nature that they mastered on their debut album. They really capture the sound perfectly. If there is ever a Dazed and Confused remake – this will be on the soundtrack.

Check out “Electric Fever”, a song also from the album that they released earlier in the year. The band have some CMJ shows lined up. Find them below.

Thanks to Out Of Town Films for filming Free Energy performing a new song titled “Hold You Close”. The performance took place in local Philadelphia guitar shop DiPinto’s, right before their free show at Morgan’s Pier.

The video catches the band in a comfortable setting playing a song that is equally as much of a relaxed, feel -good time. Watch/listen to the song below, which should make an appearance on the bands upcoming new album.

[new]: Free Energy – Electric Fever

By Will Oliver, March 6th 2012 — with 2 comments

“Electric Fever” is the first new Free Energy track from new album, Love Sign.

That 80’s care-free glam rock feeling that hit home on their debut album, Stuck On Nothing, is still key for them. This is the type of music that you would want blasting out of your car stereo during those crazy late nights out.

Free Energy have kept their same feel good sound while also experimenting a bit. I’ll have no problem blasting this over some beers this weekend.

The band has announced a few SXSW dates. Check those out after the jump.
