[new]: Gauntlet Hair – Keep Time

By Will Oliver, September 22nd 2011

Gauntlet Hair have been unstoppable so far. Sure they’ve only shared a few released, but all of them have been incredible. This is also true for “Keep Time” a new song that will kick off their debut album, out on October 18 via Dead Oceans.

The Denver duo never shy away from the reverb which is always a good thing. Who doesn’t love some echo-y goodness?

[new] Gauntlet Hair – Top Bunk

By Will Oliver, July 29th 2011 — with 1 comment

Gauntlet Hair scrapped their way onto my best songs of the year last year, and that was before even releasing an album. The band is releasing their s/t debut album via Dead Oceans on October 18.

If you liked anything from their debut 7″ singles last year, you will be infatic to hear their new material. They’re offering a free download of “Top Bunk”, a totally fantastic album cut. It’s gritty and grinds towards an epic finish. Oh hell, the whole song is epic, who am I kidding.

Download it below:

Gauntlet Hair – I Was Thinking… 7″

By Will Oliver, June 2nd 2010

If you don’t know about Forest Family Records, you better get acquainted with them right now. They are the record label started by the dudes who run the legendary music blogs Gorilla vs. Bear and Weekly Tape Deck. They were responsible for the vinyl release of recent indie darlings Cults, which sold out.

They’re getting set to release their 2nd 7″. This time it’s for Gauntlet Hair’s “I Was Thinking…” & “Our Scenery”. I posted about “I Was Thinking…” before, and if you haven’t downloaded it yet, you are truly missing out on one of the best songs of the year. The 7″ is still on sale right here. Hurry though, they are bound to sell out of it soon. With only 500 copies in print, this is a must have. You can grab mp3’s of both songs below thanks to FFR.

By Will Oliver, April 29th 2010 — with 1 comment

Last night I asked my twitter followers what their favorite song of 2010 was. I got a ton of songs from Plastic Beach as responses, but I also got a few people who strongly voted for Gauntlet Hair’s “I Was Thinking…”. I missed out of this one, but thanks to the good people who responded I am now caught up.

“I Was Thinking…” will be the second ever vinyl release on Forest Family Records, the record label created by music blogs Gorilla vs. Bear & Weekly Tape Deck. Gauntlet Hair have a dreamy sound that floats somewhere between the likes of Animal Collective & Broken Social Scene. The vocals and guitars on “I Was Thinking…” share a haunting blanket of reverb that creates a wondrous sound. It hits all the right spots.

Keep an eye out at FFR for it’s 7″ pre-order as it is very limited.

Molten Salt – “Down To The Wire”

By Will Oliver, December 27th 2017

Molten Salt are an indie rock band out of Olympia, Washington who released their debut album Quiet Hex on September 4 via 2060 Records.

“Down to The Wire” is an interesting jam from the album that recalls some of the experimental yet easy to connect to rock of old music blog acts such as Gauntlet Hair and even a bit of early Mac DeMarco. It’s got some hazy vocals and guitar work that all work together to create something dreamy yet fuzzy enough to really make an impression.

You can stream “Down To The Wire” below and listen/purchase the entire album over at bandcamp.

Gauntet Hair Break Up?

By Will Oliver, August 11th 2013 — with 4 comments

Gauntlet Hair may have reached its end as a band. They just posted this message to their official facebook page:

This comes just a month after releasing their sophomore album Stills. Seems like a quick happening, but it seems as though the band have come to some differences and decided to split. Sad to see.

We All Want Someone To Shout For’s Best Songs Of 2011

By Will Oliver, January 6th 2012 — with 17 comments

Thanks to Cam for the artwork.

Here’s the list you all have been waiting for (top albums of the year can be found here). It’s 100 of my favorite songs of the year. The term “best” doesn’t leave much room for objectivity, and favorite sounds a lot more personal. I didn’t have the heart to limit these great songs to a list of just 25-50 because there’s simply too much good stuff out there. You can stream all the tracks individually, and listen to the spotify playlist.

I present to you, my favorite songs of the year 2011:

We All Want Someone To Shout For’s Best Songs Of 2011…So Far

By Will Oliver, August 18th 2011 — with 34 comments

(Thanks to Camilo Bejarano for the perfect album art)

I love making lists. I’m the guy who just needs to compile a list of my favorite songs midway (a month late, I know..) through the year. I did one last summer and had a great time doing it, so I had to do another.

I meant to do this in July but life got in the way of that. We All Want Someone To Shout For turned three years old a few weeks ago, so think of this as a little thank you from me. Rather than just limited the list to only 50 songs, I splurged even more with 70. I just didn’t want to leave any of these songs out because I believe they all deserve some spotlight.

This is by no means final, you never know what my list will look like come December. I offer it to you as a way for you to get close with the songs that I have in 2011. I included a mp3 stream of each, and for a limited time you can download the entire thing as a ZIP file. I know it may be overwhelming to some, but give it a d/l spin some songs, and come back to it later. If you like the music, search the artist and support them by buying their music on itunes, amazon, or going to see a show.

I hope you enjoy listening to these songs as much as I have. Without further ado, I present to you We All Want Someone To Shout For’s Best Songs Of 2011…So Far:

Lots of cool stuff came out this month. Here’s just some of the songs that I found myself rocking out to the most. I left some songs from July off on purpose because it’s likely going to make an appearance on a different list I have coming up soon.

As always, thanks to the magician himself, Camilo Bejarano for the album art that is posted above. He never disappoints.

Stream each track individually, and download a mix of all of them in order with the album art at the end of the post. Enjoy!
