Last year British indie rockers Flyte released their debut album The Loved Ones, which was far and away one of our favorite albums of the year.

After seven long months on the road touring in support of the record, the band took a break at the Isle of Wight in December, where they wrote and produced two completely new songs (which were produced and mixed by longtime friend and collaborator, Burke Reid). This session resulted in “Moon Unit” and “Victory Girls,” the two songs which we are honored to premiere to you today.

“Moon Unit” chugs along with a soothing energy that effortlessly builds up to deliver a chorus that is every bit charming and addictive as all the best Flyte songs are. Its title is a nod to Frank Zappa’s daughter and an ode to the songs their parents would listen to on cassette during long drives.

Then you have “Victory Girls,” a song that showcases the simple, yet efficient use of just their lush vocals and dreamy guitar work providing something that feels completely timeless.

Most impressively, while both efforts have no problem working their magic on a listener fairly instantly, they also have a special growing power that allows them to sound even better with each subsequent listen.

These two songs will surely be showcased when they finally bring their tour to the United States for the first time for both SXSW, as well as long-awaited headlining performances in both Los Angeles and New York (at Mercury Lounge – grab tickets here)

Enjoy the exclusive stream of both songs below as well as their upcoming U.S. tour dates, posted right after.

Soft Girls & Boys Club – “22:22”

By Will Oliver, January 15th 2018

Soft Girls & Boys Club are a 5-piece out of Nottingham who makes some delicious psych-rock with some groovy hooks that don’t take long to show themselves on their 2017 single “22:22.” Good vocals, some nice guitar work and a funky sensibility that shows these guys as plenty worthy and confident of their talents.

The band is really only just getting started, but “22:22” feels and sounds like a band that’s ready for bigger and better things in 2018. Keep an eye on these lads.

Enjoy a stream of “22:22” below and go grab it on iTunes if you’re feeling it.

Leather Girls – “Arabian Daze”

By Will Oliver, December 4th 2017

Leather Girls are a 4-piece group out of Austin comprised of Erik Camachio, Mike Garrido, Deborah White and Dillon Fernandez. This summer they released their self-titled debut album via Yippee Ki Yay Records.

On the album the group mix old school rock sounds with a bit of a modern twist, resulting in some groovy numbers such as “Arabian Daze.” Fans of bands like Allah-Las will find plenty to love in Leather Girls’ vintage-modern rock sound that works like a charm.

Slow Magic – Girls

By Will Oliver, July 17th 2014

Slow Magic

“Girls” is Slow Magic’s first single since signing to Downtown Records, and its as great of a first as you can hope for. This isn’t your standard electronic track, but a world of glitchy-vocals, tight guitar lines and throbbing bass. Even without a spoken word, he is able to create a chorus of his own through careful loops. It’s a magic listening experience, and perfect while your slugging back a few beers with your friends on a hot summer night.

It’s off his upcoming album which will also be released via Downtown. Enjoy “Girls” below.

I wasn’t in attendance, but Andrew St. Clair was there and captured some great photos of the night. He’s shared with us some of his shots from the evening, all of which you can find below. He also got a few of Waxahatchee, who opened things up. Read the rest of this entry »

King Of Prussia

After a trip to Barcelona, King Of Prussia’s Brandon Hanick returned as a new man of sorts. The time he spent there resulted in 20 songs that the band turned into a double album that is titled Zonian Girls…And The Echoes That Surround Us All. The album comes out April 8th and will be the band’s first release on Minty Fresh.

The album has binding elements at work, with half the album’s songs representing the lighter side of the human psyche (love, joy..) with the other half representing the darker elements (the loss of love). Each light song is complimented by its own darker take, going as far as being bound together by related arrangements and melodies.

Recording began in Barcelona late in 2012, continued on in France, and finished in their native Athens, Georgia. The album features contributions from over 20 musicians, including Patrick Burke and members of The B-52s and Elf Power.

Today, along with the album announcement, we have the honor of premiering the album’s first single “Actuary.” One listen and the delightful tracks swarms you with lovely harmonies and kind vocals that are sure to make your day that much better.
