Shy Girls, the project of Portland-native singer/producer Dan Vidmar released his debut album Salt earlier this year via Hit City U.S.A.. He’s currently on the road in support of the album, bringing its sounds for a small East Coast tour this week.
“Girls” is Slow Magic’s first single since signing to Downtown Records, and its as great of a first as you can hope for. This isn’t your standard electronic track, but a world of glitchy-vocals, tight guitar lines and throbbing bass. Even without a spoken word, he is able to create a chorus of his own through careful loops. It’s a magic listening experience, and perfect while your slugging back a few beers with your friends on a hot summer night.
It’s off his upcoming album which will also be released via Downtown. Enjoy “Girls” below.

On Sunday night, Vivian Girls played their final show ever in Brooklyn at Baby’s All Right (find my coverage of the show here) The night before, they played another Brooklyn show, but at Death By Audio.
I wasn’t in attendance, but Andrew St. Clair was there and captured some great photos of the night. He’s shared with us some of his shots from the evening, all of which you can find below. He also got a few of Waxahatchee, who opened things up. Read the rest of this entry »

After a trip to Barcelona, King Of Prussia’s Brandon Hanick returned as a new man of sorts. The time he spent there resulted in 20 songs that the band turned into a double album that is titled Zonian Girls…And The Echoes That Surround Us All. The album comes out April 8th and will be the band’s first release on Minty Fresh.
The album has binding elements at work, with half the album’s songs representing the lighter side of the human psyche (love, joy..) with the other half representing the darker elements (the loss of love). Each light song is complimented by its own darker take, going as far as being bound together by related arrangements and melodies.
Recording began in Barcelona late in 2012, continued on in France, and finished in their native Athens, Georgia. The album features contributions from over 20 musicians, including Patrick Burke and members of The B-52s and Elf Power.
Today, along with the album announcement, we have the honor of premiering the album’s first single “Actuary.” One listen and the delightful tracks swarms you with lovely harmonies and kind vocals that are sure to make your day that much better. Yesterday Vivian Girls announced via a post on facebook that the time had come to call it quits.
Brooklyn, New York, March 2007: we started making music together and became what we know as Vivian Girls. It’s been a long and crazy journey in the seven years since, and we feel as though the time has finally come to let our band rest in peace. It’s been an experience that we’ll look back on and cherish and we’d like to thank you for sharing it with us. We have had such an amazing time being a band, touring the world, releasing records and meeting all of you.
The band will play a few final farewell shows, one in L.A. in February and two Brooklyn shows, the first at Death By Audio, and the 2nd and final show at Baby’s All Right. Unfortunately, tickets for both shows already sold out.
Today they’ve let go of the album’s super-charged cut “Rimbaud Eyes.” Dee Dee’s vocals create a magical moment over the big new wave instrumentals that all combine for one sweet listen.
The band will be touring this March. They’ll play Bowery Ballroom on March 25 and Music Hall of Williamsburg on March 26. Blouse will support both shows. There’s also a sold out Mercury Lounge show going down January 30.
Enjoy “Rimbaud Eyes” below.

On January 28 Dum Dum Girls will release a new album titled Too True on Sub Pop. It’s the follow-up to last year’s EP, End Of Daze. The album was recorded in Dee Dee ‘s New York aparment as well as in Hollywood. The album stands at 10-songs and was produced by Richard Gottehrer.
With the announcement comes the album’s first single, “Lost Boys and Girls Club.” It’s a stunner of a song, lost in dreamy psychadelic haze. It’s a killer. They’ve released a video for it which was directed by SSION’s Cody Critcheloe, and released by H&M Life.
Check out “Lost Boys and Girls Club” below.
