[Listen] Iron & Wine – Walking Far From Home

By Will Oliver, November 29th 2010 — with 13 comments

“Walking Far From Home” is the new single from successful folk act Iron & Wine. It was released as an exclusive Black Friday single and it leaked, to no ones surprise.

Similar to Sufjan, Sam Beam has reshaped his folk-rock sound. Sam is a fantastic songwriter, and he doesn’t stray too far from his sound. The electronic effects that he adds creates a dreamy atmosphere that will take you away from your world, leading your straight into his. I personally don’t think he departs too far from his old sound, but some fans may not know what to think of the change at first.

“Walking Far From Home” will be on Iron & Wine’s new album Kiss Each Other Clean, which is set for a release on January 25th via Warner Brothers. The 7″ includes two exclusive songs, “Summer In Savannah” & “Biting Your Tail”. It’s available to purchase from Amazon on November 30th.

Iron and Wine at Brooklyn Steel (November 14, 2017)

By Will Oliver, December 19th 2017

Following a performance at Town Hall, Iron & Wine wrapped up his two-night run in New York – as well as his U.S. tour – with a performance at Brooklyn Steel on November 14. The show came in support of Sam Beam’s new album Beast Epic, his first for Sub Pop since The Shepherd’s Dog in 2007.

This was a much smaller show than the super intimate performance he did at Housing Works Bookstore over the summer and feature a full band and a pretty cloud display hanging above him on stage. Not only did he offer a typically lovely performance and offered a ton of well-timed and witty stage banter that saw him cleverly interact with fans and the various things that came from the surprisingly chatty audience.

Iron and Wine at Housing Works (August 16, 2017)

On August 25 Sam Beam released his latest Iron & Wine album Beast Epic via Sub Pop. The show served both as an intimate preview of the new record and as a benefit, with all proceeds form the show going to benefit causes to help people living with HIV/AIDS.

While Beam did share quite a few The 13-song set featured some selections off the new record but also featured old favorites and crowd requests that he graciously obliged. There were a few moments where Beam forgot the word and got some help from audience members who helped him fill in the blanks, giving the show a lighthearted and loose feel that was a joy to witness in the always unique setting of the Housing Works Bookstore.

Newport Folk Fest 2015

This weekend I’ll be making my first ever journey to Rhode Island for the Newport Folk Festival.

I’ve heard nothing but great things from friends who have gone, who have called the festival one of the best out there, and a very relaxing festival experience. That’s not to mention an impressive lineup that includes Roger Waters, Sufjan Stevens, The Decemberists, Tallest Man On Earth, Iron & Wine and Ben Bridwell, Courtney Barnett, Leon Bridges, Angel Olsen, Blake Mills, J Mascis, Hozier, Jason Isbell, First Aid Kit, Jose Gonzalez, Laura Marling, Lord Huron, The Lone Bellow, Calexico, Shakey Graves, Heartless Bastards, Hiss Golden Messenger, and many more.
