[new]: James Blake – 40455

By Will Oliver, January 21st 2014

James Blake

Last Friday James Blake stopped by BBC Radio 1 as a part of the station’s Residency Program. During his takeover, he used the time to share a new song from him titled “40455.”

It’s a dark moody, somewhat minimal sounding effort from Blake, that fans of his will definitely have no problem swooning over. His label 1-800-Dinosaur was cool enough to get a radio rip for us on soundcloud. That’s the future right there, folks.

Check out “40455” below.

James Blake Wins 2013 Mercury Prize

James Blake is this year’s winner of the prestigious Barclaycard Mercury Prize for his album, Overgrown. The prize honors Blake with the award of the best British album from the past year. With the win, Blake comes home with a £20,000 cash prize ($32,000) as well as a trophy. A panel of music critics and industry insiders vote on the prize.

Blake beat out artists such as Arctic Monkeys, David Bowie, Jake Bugg, Disclosure, Foals, Savages, and Villagers. While Arctic Monkeys would have (obviously) been my first choice, I’m happy for Blake.

[watch]: RZA Perform With James Blake At Coachella

By Will Oliver, April 22nd 2013

It was weird enough to see that RZA was featured on “Take A Fall For Me”, a song from James Blake’s new album Overgrown. It’s even weirder to see that RZA joined James Blake during his live performance at Coachella over the weekend. RZA made things even more weird by bringing a girl on stage and rapping his verses to her. It was slightly strange and definitely a little awkward.

[new]: James Blake – Retrograde

By Will Oliver, February 7th 2013 — with 3 comments

James Blake

Today James Blake announced his new album Overgrown. It’s due out April 8 via Republic Records. Zane Lowe also premiered “Overgrown”, the album’s first single, today on the radio.

A radio rip has emerged and “Retrograde” sounds just as great as when Blake previewed at at Bowery Ballroom last December. It’s a sultry r&b jam that is full of looped vocals that will make all the ladies out there swoon with ease. Blake is back in a strong way.

James Blake @ Bowery Ballroom (December 12, 2012)

James Blake sold out Bowery Ballroom with ease. The crowd was packed in tight, with no room to breath. Blake delighted the crowd with a mix of his own favorites (“The Wilhelm Scream”, “Lindisfarne I + II”, “Limit To Your Love”, “I Never Learnt To Share”) as well as a plethera of new material that was all very encouraging. The new stuff seemed to have a connected thread, which leads me to believe a new album is on the horizon. If the new stuff is recorded as well as it was performed live last night, it will be a very solid album.
