James Blake at Webster Hall (May 18, 2016)

By Will Oliver, September 11th 2016 — with 1 comment

On May 18 the soulful Brit James Blake returned to New York for a performance at Webster Hall in support of his new album The Colour in Anything which Blake surprised us with at midnight on May 6 (released via Republic Records). Considering that he’s playing Radio City in October, this Webster Hall performance was a now rare chance to see him at a somewhat intimate venue.

[new]: James Blake – 40455

By Will Oliver, January 21st 2014

James Blake

Last Friday James Blake stopped by BBC Radio 1 as a part of the station’s Residency Program. During his takeover, he used the time to share a new song from him titled “40455.”

It’s a dark moody, somewhat minimal sounding effort from Blake, that fans of his will definitely have no problem swooning over. His label 1-800-Dinosaur was cool enough to get a radio rip for us on soundcloud. That’s the future right there, folks.

Check out “40455” below.

James Blake Wins 2013 Mercury Prize

James Blake is this year’s winner of the prestigious Barclaycard Mercury Prize for his album, Overgrown. The prize honors Blake with the award of the best British album from the past year. With the win, Blake comes home with a £20,000 cash prize ($32,000) as well as a trophy. A panel of music critics and industry insiders vote on the prize.

Blake beat out artists such as Arctic Monkeys, David Bowie, Jake Bugg, Disclosure, Foals, Savages, and Villagers. While Arctic Monkeys would have (obviously) been my first choice, I’m happy for Blake.

[watch]: RZA Perform With James Blake At Coachella

By Will Oliver, April 22nd 2013

It was weird enough to see that RZA was featured on “Take A Fall For Me”, a song from James Blake’s new album Overgrown. It’s even weirder to see that RZA joined James Blake during his live performance at Coachella over the weekend. RZA made things even more weird by bringing a girl on stage and rapping his verses to her. It was slightly strange and definitely a little awkward.

Watch the performance below.
