MGMT at Brooklyn Steel (March 26, 2018)

By Will Oliver, May 4th 2018

On March 26 MGMT wrapped up their sold out two-night run at Brooklyn Steel. Just like the night before, the band, led by Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, delivered a lively and energetic performance, bringing to life the new songs of new album Little Dark Age with plenty of gusto. MGMT have improved a great deal as a live band over the years and this current tour is easily the strongest that the band has ever sounded to date.

They added a few new songs to the setlist, including some welcome performances of “Of Moons, Birds & Monsters” and “Flash Delirium” which stood out along with new album highlights such as “Me and Michael.”

Find a full gallery of photos from the performance posted below along with the setlist.

MGMT at Brooklyn Steel (March 25, 2018)

By Will Oliver, May 3rd 2018 — with 1 comment

On March 25, MGMT kicked off the first of a sold out two-night run at Brooklyn Steel, following a performance the night before at Kings Theatre. This was our first time catching them in four years (since their big-time performance at Barclays) and since the release of their 80’s inspired new album Little Dark Age (released via Columbia Records).

As expected a large chunk of the setlist was taken from the new album with some striking visuals to match their distinct vibe. There was also the expected hits such as “Time To Pretend,” “Electric Feel” and “Kids” which included a bit of Limahl’s “The Never Ending Story” theme woven in.

Find some cell phone shots from this performance posted below and stay tuned for photos from Night 2 at Brooklyn Steel coming soon as well.

MGMT @ Barclays Center (December 13, 2013)

By Will Oliver, December 14th 2013 — with 1 comment

Last night MGMT played to an ecstatic (and young) crowd at Barclays Center that was their first NYC show in nearly 3 years. A homecoming of sorts. It’s been 5 years since I’ve gotten to see MGMT live, and that was when they were a young band opening for Beck. Bck then they were still coming into their own. After seeing their performance last night, it’s safe to say they’ve definitely done so. Read the rest of this entry »

[music video]: MGMT – Cool Song No. 2

MGMT have released a video for “Cool Song No. 2” that features Michael K. Williams, who you may know as Omar from The Wire, Chalky White from Boardwalk Empire, or Professor Marshall Kane from Community, amongst other roles.

He stars in the video as a man ahead of an empire that turns plans into drugs. It’s a wacky trip, very much in sync to the world of MGMT. Watch it below.

MGMT stopped by Jimmy Fallon last night to play some music and announce that they are playing at Barclays Center on December 13. It’s their biggest New York show to date.

They played two new song from their new self-titled album (which just came out this week). The first was “Plenty Of Girls In The Sea” which saw them in actual swim gear and flippers. Then they played “Alien Days” next, this time in normal clothing. But Andrew starts the performance by taking in some helium from a balloon to get the beginning of the song just right.

Find both performances below.

Watch MGMT’s Album Teaser Short Film

By Will Oliver, September 4th 2013

MGMT’s new self-titled album comes out soon, on 9/17 via Columbia Records, to be exact. They’ve released a little teaser trailer/short film showcasing a few tracks from the album. It shows the band getting suspicious as the NSA is spying on them brushing their teeth and practicing. It’s a pretty cool clip.

Be sure to check it out to preview some other tracks from the album, including lead single, “Your Life Is A Lie.”

[new]: MGMT – Your Life Is A Lie

By Will Oliver, August 8th 2013 — with 2 comments

Screen Shot 2013-08-08 at 5.14.11 PM

MGMT have released their new single “Your Life Is A Lie” via a wacky music video. But considering it is MGMT we are talking about here, the video makes plenty of sense. It was directed by Tom Kuntz who also did their “Congratulations” video.

The song itself is a mix between their first two albums. The psychedelic weirdness is still there but with the poppy wisdom that everyone fell in love with on their debut. There’s something for every MGMT fan here.

It’s off their new album MGMT which comes out September 17 via Columbia.
