Mayer Hawthorne at Escape Music Festival 2014

By Will Oliver, October 28th 2014

Mayer Hawthorne delighted the crowd at the Escape Music Festival a few weekends ago with a fun late night set. Hawthorne, who released his latest album Where Does This Door Go last year, warmed us up from the damp weather that the night brought with a bright vibrant set that included a fun cover of Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way.”

It was my first time catching Hawthorne live, and I hope to catch a full club show from him sometime soon.

[watch]: Mayer Hawthorne Play His Own Halftime Show

By Will Oliver, November 28th 2011

Many people were (rightfully) upset that Nickelback were the halftime “entertainment” at the Lions/Packers Thanksgiving day game. People tried to petition them off, but to no avail. Mayer Hawthorne campaigned to take their spot, but as you saw, Nickelback didn’t give it up.

Hawthorne compromised by broadcasting a mini-show in his family’s basement on turkey day. His dad is even playing bass. It’s a great performance, definitely check it out below via Rolling Stone.

By Will Oliver, September 4th 2014

Escape Music Festival 2014

Escape Music Festival is a new music festival that will kick off its inaugural year this fall when they take over Pier 9 in Brooklyn on October 11 & 12. In July they announced Phase 1 of their lineup.

Yesterday they shared the full lineup, with new additions that include the likes of Girl Talk, Moby (DJ Set), Mayer Hawthorne, and The Joy Formidable. They join a lineup that already included Placebo, Yeasayer, The Crystal Method, Ra Ra Riot, STRFKR (DJ Set), Neon Indian (DJ Set), and many more.

Tickets are on sale now for the limited 2nd tier price of $109 for the weekend. After that, they will jump up to $139 for the weekend. There are also V.I.P. and Ferry options available to purchase right now.

Holy cow, what a show! ?uestlove announced the spectacular lineup for the Roots Picnic 2010 which is held on June 5th at Penns Landing in Philadelphia. He announced it via tweetvid. The lineup is pretty heavily “afro-beat” influenced. It’s also quite diverse. Vampire Weekend is headlining (woohoo!). Then you got The Roots (duh), Clipse, The Very Best, Mayer Hawthorne, Das Racist, Tune-Yards, Nneka, Bajah + The Dry Eye Crew, Pattern Is Movement, The Money Making Jam Boys, ?uestlove & DJ Jazzy Jeff, and last but not least, the legendary RUN DMC.

All I got to say is wow. What a show this is going to be! Definetly considering checking this out. This is going to be different from any other show that I’ve ever seen.
