Rostam at Bowery Ballroom (May 3, 2017)

By Will Oliver, May 15th 2017

Now tackling his solo career full on, former Vampire Weekend member Rostam will release his debut album later this year. He’s been teasing the release with new songs here and there, but the latest confirmation came with the new music video for “Gwan,” the first release from his album.

On May 3 Rostam showed off some of his new material at Bowery Ballroom, the second show of small run of East Coast dates. The set featured cuts that Rostam previously released such as the aforementioned “Gwan,” “Wood,” “Don’t Let It Get To You,” “Gravity Don’t Pull Me,” and “EOS,” some of which included two dancers moving along with the music. The 15-song set list also included new material that we can only assume will be on his record, all of which had that signature Rostam feel – along with those familiar string arrangements – connecting with the crowd right from the get-go.

Rostam:Jenny Lewis

Jenny Lewis contributed a new song to the official soundtrack for the HBO show Girls. It’s a track called “Completely Not Me” which was produced by Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij.

If you watched the Girls season premiere last night you may remember hearing the song. It fit perfectly in the context of the show. It’s a hopeful and inspired track that definitely has Rostam’s fingerprints all over it. It definitely would sit quite nicely next to Modern Vampires Of The City.

Take a listen to the track over at Entertainment Weekly.

Rostam – Wood

“Wood” is a new track from Rostam, who you know as Rostam Batmanglij from Vampire Weekend. It’s got a heavy eastern influence on the surface, with plenty of the great stuff from Vampire Weekend/Discovery in its core. It’s a great track that he shared on his tumblr, and you can download it below:

Kid Cudi, Best Coast and Rostam Batmanglij – “All Summer”

By Will Oliver, July 8th 2010 — with 3 comments

Remember when Pharrell Williams, Santigold, and Julian Casablancas got together for Converse to collaborate and create a song called “My Drive Thru”? Well, now Converse have gathered Kid Cudi, Best Coast, and Rostam from Vampire Weekend to create their next song. It’s called “All Summer” and it’s major league.

It starts with Cudi rapping over a simple yet effective drum beat, with Beth floating in the background. Rostam’s production explodes with an incredible chorus from Beth of Best Coast, and the song just takes off in flight. All three are great artists in their own right, and together they are an eclectic team that created something special. Rostam has grown into one of the game’s best producers, and if this song doesn’t convince you so, then I don’t know what else to say.

Download the song below via Converse:

[video] Radiohead – Karma Police (Live @ Glastonbury via Rostam)

By Will Oliver, June 28th 2010 — with 2 comments

I just saw an amazing backstage video of Radiohead’s performance of “Karma Police” live at Glastonbury this past weekend. It was shot by Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij. You get a great view of the crowd, who pretty much take over singing duties for the anthem. Watch:

Here is another clip, from the front row:

Dear Radiohead,

Please come back and play in America soon.

Love,

Will

Watch Videos of Rostam Performing Live As Boys Like Us

Rostam played one his first live shows as Boys Like Us a few days ago in LA alongside Cass McCombs & Foreign Born. I did some research on youtube and found a few live videos these performances. The Calder Quartet provided Rostam with some backup, and as expected, the string arrangements are stunning. I gotta say from the videos I just watch, his solo stuff sounds great so far. Check out some videos of the performance below:

The first videos and third one feature the same song. However the first one cuts off in the middle of it. The third one captures the rest & more.

Hope to hear more stuff soon!
