St. Vincent at Electric Factory (November 28, 2017)

By Will Oliver, December 23rd 2017 — with 2 comments

This year Annie Clark returned in a big way as St. Vincent, releasing new album Masseduction via Loma Vista Recordings†. The album still has many of her now signature sounds, but also venturing into a poppier, more produced sound. It took some time for me to get used to it, along with the…interesting promotional campaign, but I’ve really come around on the album with each and every listen since its release.

St. Vincent at Governors Ball 2015

Just like at Boston Calling, one of the highlights of the entire Governors Ball weekend was the performance from Annie Clark, better known in the music world as St. Vincent.

Over the years she’s blossomed into a true rockstar, with last year’s self-titled released setting her aside from the rest of the pack. While there’s still that dreamy otherworldly quality to her music, live she really presses forward with her mega-riffs and experimental sounds, with choreographed movements perfectly timed on stage while playing to go along with it. You can’t help but be completely immersed and overwhelmed by the total sonic experience that Clark puts on as St. Vincent.

As the whirlwind tour for St. Vincent finally starts to wrap up, we can only wonder what she will bring to the table with her next release. But as I left the photo pit after seeing starstruck fans in the front row singing back every word to rock star Annie, I realized that she’s on an entirely different level. The future is exciting.

Find shots from her performance at Governors Ball posted below.

St. Vincent at Boston Calling 2015

There’s simply no stoping the career of Annie Clark, who has become a true rockstar as St. Vincent. With last year’s self-titled release, she finally broke out in a way that had been long coming, but still felt oh so right.

Her set at Boston Calling was one of the highlights of the festival, which saw her bring out all the stops. Her band seems to get tighter and tighter ever time I see them, absolutely nailing all of the songs off of St. Vincent and the rest of the albums of her ever growing career.

She brought out her corographed moves, poses, and affecting stares, and even found her way into the audience by riding on the back of a helpful security guard. There’s not much that St. Vincent can’t do at this point, except continue her ascent to rock superstardom.

St. Vincent at Celebrate Brooklyn! (August 9, 2014)

By Will Oliver, August 10th 2014

Last night St. Vincent proved that she is one of the bright spots in the world of music, someone everyone should be admiring. She was a perfect choice to close out the 2014 Celebrate Brooklyn! series at the Prospect Park Bandshell, playing a free show that was probably packed slightly over capacity. It left countless (couple of thousand?) fans outside the bandshell, most of whom ended up picnicking and enjoying the show just outside the gates.

Watch St. Vincent Play SNL

By Will Oliver, May 20th 2014

St. Vincent SNL

Over the weekend St. Vincent played the season finale of SNL. This was a major win for music if you ask me, no matter if it “confused the masses.”

She played both “Digital Witness” and “Birth In Reverse” off of this year’s self-titled album. It was awesome to see her rocking the stage, doing her thing in front of a national audience. SNL alum Andy Samberg was the host.

Check out both of her performances below. Find my coverage of her show at Terminal 5 from earlier in the year right here.

[new]: St. Vincent – Prince Johnny

By Will Oliver, February 12th 2014

St Vincent

St. Vincent has already shared quite a bit of her new self-titled album. We already heard two tracks from the album: “Birth In Reverse” & “Digital Witness”, which just got its own video.

The album comes out February 25 via Loma Vista, and last week Annie Clark released another LP cut to keep the cycle going. This time it’s a track called “Prince Johnny.” The previous two album cuts were good, but “Prince Johnny” is something special. It’s a magical track that will leave you catching your breath in awe.

Stream it below.
