Superchunk at Rough Trade NYC (February 16, 2018)

By Will Oliver, March 7th 2018

Superchunk returned fully charged on new album What a Time to Be Alive, which was released last month via Merge Records.

On February 16 they celebrated the albums release with an instore performance at Rough Trade NYC that was free to those who had purchased the album directly from the New York store (and they signed copies for everyone after).

The band gave fans a mini-set of 11 songs, six of which came from What a Time to Be Alive, with the others taken from across their expansive catalog of releases. Set closer “Fishing” saw singer/guitarist Mac McCaughan and drummer Jon Wurster switch spots in a pretty epic fashion that sent fans out of the venue happy and eager to meet the band after for the signing.

Find photos from their performance posted below, along with the setlist.

[music video]: Superchunk – Void

By Will Oliver, November 26th 2013

Superchunk Void

Superchunk have released an awesome video for their track “Void.” It’s shot at Brooklyn venue Shea Stadium and features television writers/actors Jon Glaser (Parks and Recreation’s Councilman Jamm), Jon Benjamin (Archer/Bob’s Burgers), and Ted Travelstead.

They star as aging rockfans who are completely out of their element at a rock show. The video even features a brief appearance from Andrew St. Clair one of our featured photographers here at We All Want Someone.

It’s a pretty awesome video. Check it out below. Read the rest of this entry »

Superchunk will release a new album called I Hate Music on August 20 via Merge. TA 7″ of the single will be released, and features an alternative version of the one that will appear on the album.

It has all the qualities of a great 80s/90s garage rock tune. The delivery of “we got a sweeeet summer breeze” by singer Mac McCaughan nearly makes the song. This is pretty awesome stuff, perfect for a summer drive with the windows down. It definitely doesn’t make me hate music.

Superchunk will stop by Bowery Ballroom on September 27 & 28.

Yo La Tengo at Bowery Ballroom (December 16, 2017)

By Will Oliver, December 27th 2017

2017 saw Yo La Tengo bring back their Hanukkah shows for the first time in five years. Following the closure of their usual location at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, New Jersey, the shows took place at Bowery Ballroom for their usual eight night run, with all proceeds donated to charity.

While we just saw them over the summer when they played a free show at Central Park Summerstage, I was eager to catch one of the shows as I had never gotten the chance to see one of the Hoboken shows as they were no longer around by the time I really started going to shows as insanely actively as I do now.

Ground Control Touring 15th Anniversary at Webster Hall (December 2, 2015)

By Will Oliver, February 27th 2016 — with 1 comment

1_Parquet Courts_Webster Hall

On December 2, booking agency Ground Control Touring threw a giant party at Webster Hall celebrating their 15th anniversary. What better way to celebrate than taking up all three venues of Webster Hall (the main room, Marlin Room and The Studio at Webster Hall) and filling them up with all the great talent on your own roster.

The mini-festival of sorts was a cool idea that took advantage of the Webster Hall layout. Only, it was definitely way oversold and unless you camped out at one stage or left very early in the middle of a performance, you had no shot of getting anywhere close to the stage. So in that sense, it definitely was very reminiscent of a music festival.

But it’s hard to complain when you got to see Parquet Courts and Lee Ranaldo play some Sonic Youth together, or see bands like Superchunk, Kurt Vile, Woods, Screaming Females, Porches and Frankie Cosmos all within a couple of hours of each other.

It may be another couple of years until we see Ground Control back at it again for their 20th, but it will be interesting to see if any other companies follow suite in the next couple of months.

Find shot of all the artists I was able to catch posted in the photo gallery below.
