TV On The Radio Announce New Album: ‘Seeds’

By Will Oliver, August 11th 2014

TV On The Radio

This fall TV On The Radio will return with a new album titled Seeds, set for release on Harvest Records. The album was recorded at Federal Prism in Los Angeles and produced by the band’s very own Dave Sitek.

They’ve been playing some new material live, including at their Governors Ball set this year, which I caught.

Here’s what vocalist Tunde Adebimpe had to say about the album:

We’ve been through a lot of stuff in the past few years that could have stopped the band cold; but I’m glad we got it together and took stock of the unique connection we have between each other because the record is, 1000%, without a doubt, the best thing we’ve ever done.”

The announcement came with a 25-second teaser video, which you can find below.

Tunde-Adebimpe

If you saw the 2008 film Rachel Getting Married you may remember TV On The Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe making an appearance. That wasn’t just a one time deal, it looks like he’s a part time actor for real now. He’s been cast in a new movie called Nasty Baby that will co-star him with Kristin Wiig and the film’s director, Sebastián Silva. Read more about the casting news over at Filmtastic.

TV On The Radio
have returned with a strong new single titled “Mercy” that they teased earlier on instagram. The song wastes no time kicking into full gear, showcasing a vicious guitar riff and a sense of urgency. It has that fuzzy nature of their earlier stuff that we all fell in love it.

They gave it to Huff Post Entertainment to premiere, and it signals their return to music. There’s no plans for a full LP yet, but it’s their first outing on Dave Sitek’s label, Federal Prism.

“Mercy” hits really hard, not slowing down or waiting for you to get with it. TV On The Radio are freaking back folks. In a big, big, way.

Beady Eye Working With TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek

By Will Oliver, November 12th 2012 — with 4 comments

If you need a refresher, Beady Eye is Oasis minus Noel Gallagher. Their debut album was lackluster, and I pretty much abandoned ship and am team Noel all the way. The band have revealed that they are working with TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek on their new album. Sitek will sit in as producer as the bands post on facebook detailed.

Expectations aren’t particularly high, but I am now intrigued. Will Sitek be able to breathe some life into them? We will see.

Before Saturday, TV On The Radio were high up on my list of bands to finally see. So, I had probably what you could call “unfairly high hopes” going in. I left very pleased, which isn’t too much of a surprise.

Tunde Adebimpe showcased tremendous energy, complemented by the sturdy grace of Kyp Malone and of course, the notable presence of Dave Sitek. The band’s material is transcribed with a different feeling than recorded. It’s adjusted to a fine point live where you can distinguish the bands’ emotions, and how it impacts their playing.

The set was one that any fan would adore, pulling out the best cuts from all of their releases. It was great to finally hear “Wolf Like Me”, and let the band release all of life’s tensions into the outer banks of the island.

These guys are still one of the best bands going. No doubt.

R.I.P. Gerard Smith, TV On The Radio’s Bassist

By Will Oliver, April 20th 2011 — with 1 comment

It saddens me to report that Gerard Smith, bassist of TV On The Radio, has passed away. The band had previously made their fans aware that Smith was battling lung cancer. Unfortunately Gerard passed away this morning.

The band posted the following message on their website:

My thoughts and prayers go out to Gerard Smith, his family, and TV On The Radio.
