British rockers Temples are always a must-see for me. From their first official NYC show, to last year’s stop at Bowery, the band just seem to get better and better live each time I see them perform.

Last week, on May 16, they put on the best show that I have seen from them yet, during the first of a two-night run at Music Hall of Williamsburg. The stops are a part of a tour in support of their new album Volcano, which they released in March via Fat Possum.

Temples at Bowery Ballroom (October 26, 2016)

By Will Oliver, December 31st 2016 — with 1 comment

On October 26 British psych-rockers Temples made their way back to New York for a packed performance at Bowery Ballroom, the place where they made their “official” NYC debut in 2013.

They’re gearing up to release their new album Volcano next year via Fat Possum. They shared a few new songs from the record such as their great new single “Certainty,” as well as a couple of other unreleased tracks that mixed in wonderfully with older material from their debut.

The show was opened by Los Angeles psych rockers Vinyl Williams who released their new record Brunei this August via Company Records.

Find photos of both their performances posted below, along with Temples’ setlist.

Preview: Temples at Bowery Ballroom

With the release of the very Tame Impala-ish new single “Certainty,” psych-rockers Temples are gearing up for a new album. They’ll return to us in New York tomorrow for a show at Bowery Ballroom, the place that they played their very first “official” New York show in November 2013 (you can find our coverage of that show here).

There are still some tickets available, but something tells me that they won’t last until the show tomorrow night. Support comes from Los Angeles’ Vinyl Williams. It should be a good one. If you haven’t already heard “Certainty,” I’ve embedded it below:

Temples at Music Hall of Williamsburg (June 8, 2015)

By Will Oliver, August 18th 2015

Back in June English psych-rockers Temples made their return to New York to play a sold out show at Music Hall of Williamsburg. The stop came in between summer festival dates in June, and as a victory lap for their terrific debut album Sun Structures (released by Fat Possum)

Shamefully this was my first time seeing them perform since they played Bowery Ballroom back in 2013 (man, time just flies on by). The group sounded good during that performance, but the Temples I was currently seeing was a tighter, groovier bunch, who had the capacity crowd eager to bop along and sing back every word. These guys had become rock stars, practically overnight.

The night was full of the wonders of Sun Structures, as well as a few new songs, such as “Volcano / Saviour” and “Henry’s Cake.” The new stuff seemed fully realized and ready to go, making me excited at the prospect of new record, possibly by next year.

Find some photos from the show, along with the setlist, posted below.

Temples had a great 2014, releasing their strong and assured debut album Sun Structures via Fat Possum which ended up on many best of lists, even with its early release datre. The band are continuing the momentum, bringing their tour back to New York this Monday for a perfectly booked show at Music Hall of Williamsburg.

The intimate venue is the perfect size for the English psych-rockers, who last wowed me live when I saw them play Bowery Ballroom back in 2013. That was a wonderful performance, and I’m sure that they’ve improved as performers since it, making me even more excited to return and see what delights await from this gig.

Tickets for the show are still on sale. This will likely be Temples last appearance here until their next album, so if you’re free Monday night, you best find your way to Williamsburg.

Photos: Temples at Irving Plaza (October 27, 2014)

By Will Oliver, November 14th 2014

All photos by Dana Pacifico

It’s been great to see how far British band Temples have come in the quick year that has passed since I saw them at Bowery Ballroom last November. They’ve since let go of their terrific debut LP Sun Structures and have been touring like mad men.

On October 27 they brought their tour back to New York City for a performance at Irving Plaza, their largest show here to date. It also featured an opening performance from Pennsylvania-based youngsters The Districts, who I saw last year, and are ones to watch for sure.

Our very own Dana Pacifico was there to capture the evening in photos. Catch her shots of both Temples and The Districts posted below.

Preview: Temples at Irving Plaza Tomorrow Night

By Will Oliver, October 26th 2014 — with 1 comment

It was almost a year ago that I saw Temples make their live debut in NYC at Bowery Ballroom. They’ve done a lot in the time period between that show, releasing a rock solid debut album in Sun Restructured, playing a whole bunch of summer festivals in between their 2014 tour, which also included a return trip to New York to play a free show at Pier 84.

Tomorrow night they return to New York City once again to play their biggest show to date at Irving Plaza. It’s a big moment for the band, and one that you don’t want to miss. We’ll have coverage of the show coming up, but if you want to join us, go ahead and grab tickets, there’s still some on sale.
