The Cave Singers – Have To Pretend

By Will Oliver, December 13th 2012

The Cave Singers

The Cave Singers will release a new album, Naomi, on March 5 via Jagjaguwar. It’s the Seattle band’s fourth album.

They have shared the first cut from the album, the smokey “Have To Pretend.” Lead singer Pete Quirk takes the song to another level with a rock solid vocal performance that is just as note-worthy as the songs guitar riff.

Good first cut off of an album that should deliver just as strongly.

The Cave Singers @ Bonnaroo (June 7, 2012)

By Will Oliver, June 12th 2012

After setting up at the camp site (Camp Claire Standish) after a grueling trip from New York, the first act I caught was The Cave Singers. The first time I saw them was during their opening slot for Fleet Foxes at United Palace Theater. This time was just as solid. A warm set that mixed calm songs with moments of rock. Everyone was fresh and gearing up for a long weekend of great music, and The Cave Singers were a great way to get started.

By Will Oliver, August 23rd 2013 — with 1 comment

Hamilton Leithauser of The Walkmen is the latest frontman to begin the journey as a solo artist. According to Kicking the Habit (via Pitchfork) Hamilton has been working on the album at L.A.’s Vox Studios with a help from some indie rock musican friends. They include Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend, Richard Swift of The Shins,  Morgen Henderson of Fleet Foxes and The Cave Singers, as well as The Walkmen’s Paul Maroon.

It’s looking at a potential release sometime next spring. He has a newly created instagram account with some photos of his time in the studio.

Thanks to Cam for the artwork.

Here’s the list you all have been waiting for (top albums of the year can be found here). It’s 100 of my favorite songs of the year. The term “best” doesn’t leave much room for objectivity, and favorite sounds a lot more personal. I didn’t have the heart to limit these great songs to a list of just 25-50 because there’s simply too much good stuff out there. You can stream all the tracks individually, and listen to the spotify playlist.

I present to you, my favorite songs of the year 2011:
