[new]: The Little Ones – Argonauts

By Will Oliver, November 6th 2012 — with 2 comments

I still remember discovering The Little Ones on blogs like Gorilla Vs. Bear back in 2006, and absolutely adoring them. Young discoveries like them were entirely new to my 15-year-old self, and it was the sort of thing that got me to start a blog of my own. So I definitely owe a bit of gratitude to the band.

It’s been four (!) years since their debut album, and just when I was worried all was lost with the L.A. band, they surprised me with news of a new album + song. The album is called The Dawn Sang Along and the first track we get is called “Argonauts.”

The band haven’t changed much at all, and that’s a good thing. They still sound as joyful and youthful as they did all those years ago. Chopped up vocals and a bouncy rhythm leave them sounding confidently catchy. Go vote, then destress a bit by hitting play.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy.

The Dawn Sang Along comes out February 2013 via the Branches Recording Collective.

We All Want Someone To Shout For’s Best Songs Of 2012

By Will Oliver, January 4th 2013 — with 6 comments

Yesterday I blessed you with my favorite albums from 2012, and now, here are my favorite songs from 2012. It’s always tough to narrow songs down to a list, even if the list is 100 songs long. A lot of great new music comes out at a rapid-fire basis these days, from the biggest artists, to the smallest.

When it came down to it, these were the songs that kept the best company of the last 12 months.

As always thanks to Camilo for the artwork. You can stream the songs themselves, or listen to one giant spotify stream right here.

I present to you:

Introducing: The Rubbish Zoo

By Will Oliver, March 5th 2011 — with 2 comments

The Rubbish Zoo are 5 guys from Cheyenne, Wyoming who now reside in L.A. They’re the combination of the bands Save My Hero and This Isn‟t Congress. They came together to form The Rubbish Zoo with the intention of creating smart indie rock that has plenty of catchy hooks.

The guys sent me “Fade” & “More Ink Than An Octopus”, two songs from their debut EP, A Great Detective Race. From what I hear, these achieved their goal and more. Their songs are high energy indie rock songs with guitars graced with a tropical twang. I can’t help but be reminded of the sound found on The Little Ones debut EP, Lovers Who Uncover. These are happy songs with jangle in their step. If you like upbeat indie rock, then you can’t go wrong with The Rubbish Zoo.

These guys are currently an unsigned band. That’s going to change pretty damn soon if there’s any justice in this world of ours.
