On May 31 New York rock legends The Strokes made their live return with a intimate (for them) show at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York, that served as a warm-up for the much bigger performance at Governors Ball Music Festival on Friday night (just like they did in 2014, same date and all). As you can imagine, tickets for the show sold out in the matter of seconds, with those quick or lucky enough to grab a ticket were able to see the return of one of the last true larger than life rock bands that the music industry has left.

The fact that I got to see The Strokes play the tiny Capitol Theatre a week ago, somewhat spoiled their Governors Ball set for me. There’s just no comparison in seeing their first show in three years at a tiny theater outside of the city to a giant festival set in the hot, hot sun. Even so, I still rocked out just as hard and got to actually photograph the freaking Strokes, so there is always that..

Last night The Strokes made their live return at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. It was the first show in three years for the famed New York City rockers and it served as a warmup show for the band who are playing Governors Ball next week and didn’t even tour for last year’s Comedown Machine.

Haim can seemingly do no wrong. I’ve fallen in love with the trio of sisters since I first discovered them. They put on a solid live show, and apparently have good taste. They recently dropped by Sirius XMU to cover The Strokes’ “I’ll Try Anything Once”, and they give it their own spin, which works out rather nicely.
Take a listen below.

The Strokes already shared “One Way Trigger”, a cut from Comedown Machine, but “All The Time” is the album’s first single. Theirs no falsetto found here. Rather, it’s a very traditional Strokes song, but it doesn’t have me exactly jumping out with excitement. It sounds pretty nice, but it seems somewhat by the numbers.
Maybe it will grow on me in a few days. “One Way Trigger” has, so we’ll see. I’m still excited for the rest of the album.
Amazon has a 30 second preview of The Strokes first single from Comedown Machine, “All The Time”. Head here to check that out. Despite your thoughts on “One Way Trigger”, we can usually trust that the first single from The Strokes is usually a good one.
Based on the clip, it’s sounding more like The Strokes do without falsetto.
The official title of The Strokes new album is Comedown Machine. It will come out on RCA on March 26. Last week we heard “One Way Trigger”, a track that will appear on the album. The first single however is titled “All The Time”, and comes out February 19, although it will hit the net February 13.
I like the look and feel of that album cover a lot, I think it has that classic rock look that many fans of The Strokes are always looking (and hoping) for.
Last week word came out that The Strokes had a new album and single on the way. Even with that said, it was still a surprise to see a new song available from them today for free download.
The song is titled “One Way Trigger” and it’s different than anything that we’ve heard from The Strokes yet. Immediately you’ll notice an emphasis on electronics as well as a falsetto delivered from Julian. Soon after it kicks into a groove that is more traditionally The Strokes.
For a while the synth actually reminds me a bit of A-Ha. Never would have expecting to have A-Ha in the same sentence as The Strokes.
Well, it looks like The Strokes are back. Now the next question is, what will fans think of “One Way Trigger”?

According to Seattle radio station 107.7 The End, RCA Records sent them a new single from The Strokes titled “All The Time.” It’s apparently going to be on their new album, which will be their fifth.
So The Strokes are indeed returning with a new album this year. This is good news, and counters any doubts that people like myself may have had that they would return.
107.7 The End had this to say on their site:
we can tell you that of the two songs we heard, one was a more synth driven track, with the other (the aforementioned, “All The Time”) packing a classic Strokes sound.
This. is. awesome.
