[music video]: Chromeo – Come Alive (Feat. Toro y Moi)

By Will Oliver, February 3rd 2014 — with 1 comment

Chromeo and Toro Y Moi are a dream team match-up on their awesome track “Come Alive.”

They’ve released a pretty wacky music video for it starring Chromeo’s Dave 1 and P-Thugg as well as Chaz Bundick. In the video weird things happen at night in a mall where mannequins come to life, dance, and get frisky.

Alex Southam directed the video, which you can watch below.

[new]: Chromeo – Come Alive (Feat. Toro Y Moi)

Chromeo - Come Alive (Feat. Toro Y Moi)

Chromeo’s new album White Women doesn’t even have a release date yet, but we’re going to go out on a limb and guess that it’s sometime in 2014. They’ve already teased us with two tracks from the LP: “Over Your Shoulder” and “Sexy Socialite.”

Now they’ve released yet another track, and it’s pretty special. It’s called “Come Alive” and it features Toro Y Moi.

Chromeo + Toro Y Moi. That’s a pretty dreamy team if you ask me. Apparently he won’t be the only guest to appear on the album. According to Spin, the other White Women guests spots include Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, Solange, LCD Soundsystem’s Pat Mahoney, and two-piece Oliver who are signed to Fool’s Gold.

The disco-funk hits hard here, added by the chill groove’s of Toro Y Moi. It’s going to be an awesome track to hear live.

Even though the album hasn’t officially been announced, a tour for it has (which makes me believe a surprise album drop is on the way). The tour includes a stop here in New York City at Terminal 5 on May 16. Tickets for that go on sale here Friday at noon.

Groove to “Come Alive” below where you can also find all their upcoming U.S. tour dates.

Sides Of Chaz

Toro Y Moi’s Chaz Bundick is a busy guy. He released Anything In Return this year, and now he’s announced a new project of his which will operate under the name Sides Of Chaz.

He’s shared a cut from his first 7″, which is titled “Sweet Tea.” It’s a honest track that sounds like an indie-rock jam trapped in the 70s.

The 7″ will be released on December 10 via Fork and Spoon Records. It will be backed by a track called “Take My Car.” Stream “Sweet Tea” below.

[new]: Toro Y Moi – Lyin (Pt. 1-4)

By Will Oliver, January 11th 2013

Toro Y Moi - Lyin (Pt. 1-4)

Toro Y Moi are heading out on a spring tour soon, and they are releasing a tour only 7″ with the song “Lyin (Pt. 1-4)”. It also includes a song from Dog Bite, the band that is touring with them.

Chaz experiments with some funky goodness that offers something of an experiment that would do quite well on Adult Swim, I think.

[new]: Toro Y Moi – So Many Details

By Will Oliver, October 15th 2012

Just last week Toro Y Moi announced his new album Anything In Return. It will come out on January 22 via Carpark Records.

Today he shared the first song from the album, “So Many Details”. It’s a funk-plastered slow jam that lends a hand towards r&b styling more than ever before.

Chaz takes his time and grace and puts his best foot forward, creating a delightful preview of what’s to come from the rest of the LP. Seems like a more sparse minimal approach that he works wonderfully.

He will release a a 7″ of the single on Nov 23 as a part of Black Friday Record Store Day.

Toro Y Moi Announces New Album: Anything In Return

By Will Oliver, October 9th 2012 — with 1 comment

Toro Y Moi has announced a new album titled Anything In Return. It’s due out January 22 via Carpark Records.

Chaz gave some details about the album in an interview with Interview Magazine. Creating a pop record was the goal on this album, as he said that he is trying to make “sincere pop music that is not all processed and bubblegum.” He added that, “underground isn’t always relevant; I want to see what’s popular, then put my own spin on it.”

2013 is looking like it’s going to be off to a good start. That’s the album art above. Find the full tracklisting below.
