Day Joy – Purple

By Will Oliver, December 1st 2012

Florida’s Day Joy have released another track from their debut album Go To Sleep, Mess. We already heard the title track, and now we get another lovely folk cut called “Purple.”

Reflective vocals are kept to the chest as the folk ballad sprawls out slowly, but very assured at it’s nature. It’s a lovely piece of work, and marks the likelihood that Go To Sleep, Mess is going to be one of the lovelier records of 2013.

Day Joy – Destroyer

By Will Oliver, November 23rd 2012

Hope you didn’t torture yourself by venturing out to the shopping world culture of Black Friday. I am still in bed, lazily listening to the ultra-soothing “Destroyer” from Day Joy. It’s the b-side to their “Go To Sleep, Mess” single.

Such a smooth, laid back tune that will put you at ease. the 7″ is available to grab over at Small Plates Records right now.

Day Joy – Go To Sleep, Mess

Day Joy, hailing from Orlando, Florida, don’t have a bright, sunny sound that most of us usually associate with the state. Instead, they have a rich organic folk sound that is sparse and bleak.

You can hear this in their debut single, “Go To Sleep, Mess”. It gives you a feeling of being alone and isolated on a lonely path, which not much else but your thoughts.

The song is taken from their debut album which is also titled Go To Sleep, Mess. It will be released by Small Plates Records later this fall.
