Foals may have released their latest album What Went Down back in summer 2015 (via Warner Bros) but they’ve been hard at work touring in support of it, coming back here over the summer for festivals including Panorama, as well as a small show at the iHeartRadio Theater. They returned again in November which included local shows at United Palace Theater in NYC as well as College Street Music Hall in New Haven, Connecticut.

Foals at iHeartRadio Theater (July 25, 2016)

By Will Oliver, November 4th 2016 — with 1 comment

After playing a set at Panorama a few days earlier, Foals played a much smaller show on July 25 at the iHeartRadio Theater while they were in town. The only way in was to enter a contest, and for those lucky enough to win, they were treated to a pre-show interview with the band, along with a solid 11-song setlist of all current day Foals essentials that you’d expect from a shortened live show.

Find the setlist below, along with some iPhone shots I took from the crowd.

Foals at Terminal 5 (December 18, 2015)

One December 18, Foals made their return to New York City for the first time in 2015 in support of their new album What Went Down. Although the show their third consecutive time at Terminal 5 (can we get a bunch of intimate dates next time lads?), they still managed to throw down as hard as ever, delivering every bit on their rising ranks as one of the best live bands in the game at the moment.

[new]: Foals – “Mountain At My Gates”

By Will Oliver, July 20th 2015

Foals are gearing up for the release of their new album What Went Down, which will be released on August 28 via Warner Bros. Records. We already got the first single (and title track) “What Went Down,” and today they have followed that up with the records second single, “Mountain At My Gates.”

It establishes itself as a classic sounding Foals anthem in a matter of seconds, taking flight and never looking back. Their widescreen approach bigger than all hell here, continuing to expand their wings until the very last second. Based on this and “What Went Down,” it’s apparent that this record is gonna be another winner from Foals.

Stream “Mountain At My Gates” below.

[new]: Foals – “What Went Down”

By Will Oliver, June 16th 2015 — with 1 comment

The always reliable British rockers Foals are back, and sounding as strong as ever. They’ll release their new album What Went Down on August 28 via Warner Bros Records.

Today they premiered the first single, and title track, “What Went Down” which was released as a brand new music video. It’s very Foals in spirit, harnessing that primal energy that seems to come so naturally for them. Once it starts it never lets up, and it explodes into something that I can only imagine being an absolute monster in the live setting. Welcome back Foals.

Getting to hear a new song just makes me crave the next New York Foals show, which hopefully will be coming soon enough.

Check out the official music video for “What Went Down” below. It was directed by Niall O’Brien.

Foals @ Terminal 5 (May 6, 2014)

By Will Oliver, May 7th 2014 — with 4 comments

Foals and Cage The Elephant brought their tour to New York City last night for the first of a two night run at Terminal 5 (where Foals played almost a year ago to the day) along with J. Roddy Walston & The Business. Last night Cage The Elephant headlined, while Foals will headline tonight’s show, in an interesting decision that makes me think this is a split headliner tour more than anything else. Foals @ Governors Ball (June 9, 2013)

By Will Oliver, June 13th 2013

Foals were a last minute replacement when Death From Above 1979 dropped out of the lineup (the apparently reason was that they’re recording a new album). I love DFA1979 so I was sad to hear that, but Governors Ball really did make up for it with Foals, who I saw rock out at Terminal 5 only a month ago.

They did it again on Sunday, sounding rock solid tight. Yannis was active as ever, taking over what would eventually be Kanye’s ramp/stairs and rocking the guitar while crowdsurfing. If you haven’t ever seen a Foals show, you’re missing out.

Not many bands out there are doing what Foals do. Mixing elements of math-rock that makes you rock out and dance simultaneously, as well as creating blissful moments of sincere beauty that will stop you dead in your tracks. They put all of this on full display with relative ease. Many people who were in attendance on Friday night are calling it one of the best shows of 2013 – if not the best. I can’t really argue with that.
