Foals @ Governors Ball (June 9, 2013)

By Will Oliver, June 13th 2013

Foals were a last minute replacement when Death From Above 1979 dropped out of the lineup (the apparently reason was that they’re recording a new album). I love DFA1979 so I was sad to hear that, but Governors Ball really did make up for it with Foals, who I saw rock out at Terminal 5 only a month ago.

They did it again on Sunday, sounding rock solid tight. Yannis was active as ever, taking over what would eventually be Kanye’s ramp/stairs and rocking the guitar while crowdsurfing. If you haven’t ever seen a Foals show, you’re missing out.

Not many bands out there are doing what Foals do. Mixing elements of math-rock that makes you rock out and dance simultaneously, as well as creating blissful moments of sincere beauty that will stop you dead in your tracks. They put all of this on full display with relative ease. Many people who were in attendance on Friday night are calling it one of the best shows of 2013 – if not the best. I can’t really argue with that.

[music video]: Foals – Late Night

Foals - Late Night

I’ve been stuck in the airport for nearly 12 hours after a mishap with my flight. Foals’ new video for “Late Night” is rather fitting in this case. Though, the content is most definitely NSFW.

It was directed by Nabil, the same guy responsible for the “Pyramids” video. Check it out below.

Foals – Milk & Black Spiders (CCTV Version)

By Will Oliver, February 13th 2013

Foals new album Holy Fire dropped yesterday. The band have released a video of them performing “Milk & Black Spiders” from the album using CCTV footage. It’s somber and effective performance that is mighty good for a rehearsal

Purchase Holy Fire now.

[new]: Foals – My Number

By Will Oliver, December 14th 2012 — with 2 comments

The heaviness of “Inhaler”, the first single off Foals’ new album Holy Fire caught me slightly off-guard. I wasn’t sure what to expect from there. Well, the band have shared another cut from the album, the bouncy “My Number”, which they played live already.

While “Inhaler” was a heavy brooding song, “My Number” hits closer to the home that Foals captured on their first two albums. It moves and grooves with some incredible guitar riffs and rhythms. Try to fight the urge to move to this song. Your attempts are useless.

If Holy Fire can find a perfect balance of immense stuff and angular dance stuff, we could be in for one hell of an album.

[watch]: Foals Perform New Song “My Number”

By Will Oliver, November 14th 2012

Foals wowed me on their new single “Inhaler”, making me excited for the release of new album, Holy Fire.

Yesterday the band stopped by Jools Holland and played a new song called “My Number” live, and where “Inhaler” sounded like departure, “My Number” sounds more like a Foals number that we would expect.

It will likely also be on Holy Fire, which comes out February 12 via Warner Bros. Watch the performance below.
