[new]: Beach Fossils – Shallow

By Will, February 3rd 2012

Beach Fossils are hard at work on their 2nd LP, and one of the results of that work that they have decided to release as a separate single.

When asked about the single by Spin (who premiered the song), Dustin told them:

Indie rock has been so safe for so long. People have been playing this pretty music that’s quiet and melodic and while there’s beauty in that, in making this album I’ve just ended up wanting to rebel against myself and make something really noisy.

“Shallow” is still very much a Beach Fossils song, just a bit more fuzzier around the edges. There’s still plenty of that memorable jangly guitar in there. The single is due February 21 via Captured Tracks, and will feature b-side “Lessons”.

Big K.R.I.T. – Boobie Miles

By Will, February 3rd 2012

I’ve never listened to too much by Big K.R.I.T. but I had to check out this new track since it is titled after the Friday Night Lights (film) character/real life football player Boobie Miles. The track from Big K.R.I.T. is super smooth and on point, something a fan of any genre could appreciate.

“Boobie Miles” is from his upcoming mixtape 4Eva N a Day. Check out what he said about the song below:

the 1st song i wanted 2 release from #4evaNaDay is called Boobie Miles. Its about over coming all the obstacles that block your dreams, the sacrifices that come with how hard you have to go to obtain your goal, giving your all no matter what the situation, the only difference between a winner N a loser is a winner plays until he wins – K.R.I.T.

[new]: Wild Nothing – Nowhere

By Will, January 31st 2012 — with 1 comment

“Nowhere” is the latest single from Wild Nothing. It’s the first single that he’s been able to record in a proper studio. “Nowhere features guest vocals from Twin Sister’s Andrea Estella.

Captured Tracks is releasing the single, which will feature b-side “Wait”. A new album can be expected to be released later in the year.

Check out the nostalgic centered “Nowhere” below.

Jack White has announced his debut album Blunderbuss is on the way. The LP will be released April 24 on Third Man Records/Columbia. White produced the album and recorded it at his own Thrid Man Studios in Nashville.

“Love Interruption” is the first single from the album. It’s a solomn folksly affair with duel vocals (apparently) from Nashville artist Ruby Amanfu. It’s got that feel off The White Stripes slower acoustic album cuts. It’s available to stream now, and up for pre-order on vinyl, where it’s due out on February 7 via Third Man Recordds. It comes with exclusive b-side “Machine Gun Silhouette”.

Listen to the song below, and check out a quote from Jack about

“(Blunderbuss is) an album I couldn’t have released until now. I’ve put off making records under my own name for a long time but these songs feel like they could only be presented under my name. These songs were written from scratch, had nothing to do with anyone or anything else but my own expression, my own colors on my own canvas.”

We all knew it was a matter of time until we got a solo album from Jack. With The White Stripes out of the picture, and no new news about The Raconteurs/The Dead Weather, now seems like a perfect opportunity.

[new]: M.I.A. – Bad Girls

By Will, January 30th 2012 — with 2 comments

As I reported last week, M.I.A. reworked “Bad Girls” from her Vicki Leekx mixtape and released it today as a new single. It’s one of those tracks that sounds that much better blasted loud on some good speakers.

M.I.A. is working on her new album which is looking at a summer release. You may even see her at the Super Bowl halftime show if Madonna brings her out to perform their collab single, “Give Me All Your Luvin”.

Listen to “Bad Girls” below.

[new]: Memoryhouse – Walk With Me

By Will, January 30th 2012

Memoryhouse are back with another stunning cut from new album The Slideshow Effect. “Walk With Me” is a dreamy cinematic cut that is right up the band’s comfortable alley. The song really takes an upbeat positive turn at the end rising high up above the rest. It captures the feeling of being in a moment too good for you to truly realize how good it is. The moment’s there for the taking.

The Slideshow Effect drops February 28 via Sub Pop.
